I had a retrieval before my lap and I had zero fertilisation and majority immature eggs which they said were “odd shapes”. 4 months after my surgery I had my 2nd retrieval and managed to get 5 fertilised and 3 embryos. One of them gave me my daughter. I should say I also dramatically changed my diet too, cut out sugar, carbs, alcohol and caffeine for around a year before my 2nd round of IVF.
Thank you all for sharing
@L C that’s amazing! Yeah I’ve had multiple retrievals with decent numbers collected but no good quality embryos. My previous doctor said it was just a roll of a dice so I’m a bit nervous to get the surgery and risk damaging the little reserved I have left. So you have 2 left in the freezer for future implantations?
I have had 3 surgeries and the last one was a year before starting IVF. I have had 4 egg retrievals, lots of eggs ( 51 total) and all my resulting embryos failed at transfer. My endo became so flared from all the meds, I asked the doctors whether I should do surgery again to “reset” things. I have spoken to several doctors, they all said the same, surgery will only help your symptoms but wont change the egg quality. Damage already done kind of things. They also all said they would strongly recommend against surgery until after a pregnancy bcse more surgery = more trauma to the area = risks of adhesions and higher inflammation = too many factors that could hinder implantation or the progression of a pregnancy. So long story short, if the uterus cavity is healthy and happy, thats what matters to them and they prefer avoiding any new trauma to the body that could put success at risk.
I’ve had a lap 2 years before starting IVF, 6 mature out of 11, and 6 fertilised but no blasts. I have endo spots on my ovaries. Also had a loss recently which aggravated twinging pain on my left. Heavy bleed for 2-3 days with low ferritin, normal iron. I’m Still deciding whether or not to have lap before retrieval. Really good diet routine, but still the symptoms have increased from before and being left with no blasts is concerning. We did iCSI. @L C thanks for sharing, really appreciate it.
I was told the same thing by the fertility clinic obgyn, that it’s uncertain and u may or may not get good quality ones, which is why I am taking a second look on waitlist with endo surgeon, But if we lay out the logistics including financial plan to have multiple egg retrievals , putting thru with meds and managing symptoms with endo can be debilitating.
I had a resection and ovarian drilling in 2015, and I still ended up doing ivf in 2019. Made 3 embryos. Only one made it to the freezer on day 3. My dr then did a 3 month course of depolupron injections to put my endo into remission. Finally, a FET and now my son is almost 5
I just recently had my 2nd embryo transferred and unfortunately I have been getting negative pregnancy results for the last few days. Official test day is Tuesday but I’m pretty certain it has failed. One more left which I am hoping to transfer ASAP. I have been wondering whether to go ahead with another full round of IVF to give it one last shot if our final embryo also fails to implant but the thought of zero fertilisation again terrifies me! (For reference I have stage 3 endo with chocolate cysts on one of my ovaries, the surgeon said I was “riddled” with it).
@Pri I am so sorry you have been through this too, it is so disheartening. We were devastated! Please feel free to message if you need xxx
My baseline scan will be next week and I’ll find out if my doctor recommends surgery or not. I’m praying that I don’t need it but from our first conversation, she said she only refers to 2 doctors in California for endo surgery who are renowned for their specialties. Based on what everyone is saying, it is still a risk. Good luck @L C x
Just met with my doctor. Looks like my chances of having another baby is next to zero. I now have multiple endos.
Can’t talk on egg quality sorry as I had mine post retrieval. However I was lucky to fall pregnant on my first cycle post lap with my son. And have just undergone a second lap as I have had two failed transfers trying for a second. Hoping that the transfer I just did after the lap will stick.
