Car seats in hospital

I bought a 360 car seat that doesn’t remove from the iso fix. Somebody worried that the hospital wont let me leave without seeing baby in a removable car seat. Is this true? Or will they come to the car to approve the 360?

No they won't come to the car to approve it. They may ask to check you have one but that's it. They can't legally prevent you from taking baby home even if you didn't have a car seat. They just want to make sure everyone is as safe as possible but our hospital didn't mention anything about car seats before we left

Ages ago this was a thing, but not anymore as car seats have moved on, this goes back to when they were all infant carriers belted in (pre isofix). You’ll be fine :)

I can’t see it being a problem, unless you have an incredibly small baby. I don’t think they have time to check every babies car seat these days. however my little one was born at 3lb6oz, and when she left hospital was only 4lb. The discharging nurse wanted to see her strapped in her car seat to ensure we could get the straps tight enough for her to be safe. However in that instance I would have insisted she came to the car to check if I couldn’t take the seat in. So try not to worry xx

We weren’t allowed to carry baby out in our arms, but they didn’t care about a car seat. We were just asked to put them in a buggy or newborn safe carrier to leave the ward.

defo not true, not everyone has a car so how are they meant to leave the hospital 🤣 it might vary from trust to trust so maybe worth checking with your midwife in advance. didn’t have anything checked with mine if that helps.

I got a carrier car seat thinking this and yeah they literally couldn’t care less 😂

They checked the baby in our car seat before we left hospital, 9 weeks ago. So maybe check with your hospital because it sounds like they’re all different x

I wondered about this and checked with a friend who is a maternity care assistant at the hospital we were going to. She said if we got that car seat, to bring a pram or carrier in instead to put baby in to leave - they don't like you to leave just carrying them. We decided to get an infant carrier first in the end so just took that in. We'll get a 360 when he's bigger x

I explained to the midwife’s at the hospital that we had a 360 car seat that doesn’t come out of the car and she said that’s fine and we could bring the pram up instead

Midwives aren’t supposed to check your car seats as they have no training to do so, you can leave hospital however you like

The hospital have no business and no legal rights to stop you leaving with your baby. Midwives are not trained in car seat safety so should not be checking your baby in the seat anyway

I had my baby on Tuesday and we left with him in the pram as our seat is isofix and nobody said anything

They definitely won’t come to the car! Nobody has time for that 😂

360 ones arent suitable from birth you need to get an infant carrier

I had the same car seat, the midwife actually asked if we had a seat that we could take out the car and when i said no, they seemed totally fine with it. I'm sure they get it all the time. we took the bassinet from the pram up to the ward and carried her out in it.

@Lauren it says from newborn - 4 years 😫🥲

Thank you so much everyone x

@Grace the car tech we spoke to said it depends on the size and weight of the baby. I make little babies so decided to get a carrier first and then move to the 360 when he grows!

They won't come to the car to check as some people won't even be using a car to get home and it's not their place to do so. However just to let you know some seats whilst they say suitable from newborn aren't fab in those first few weeks/months for the fit on a small baby. My little one didnt go into her big car seat until 4 months old due to fit issues with the seat x

@Grace It says this but it's not actually a good fit for a newborn, infant carrier are much better for them plus life savers for going to appointments and putting it on your pram to nip into shops etc, I'd deffo consider getting one if I was you

We had one and wheeled our baby out in their hospital cot/bed thing and then brought it back Xx

I have this same problem. We were just going to put the pram in the car as well just in case they say anything
