I’m not originally from UK but I’m my country it is normal to start putting them on potty just to sit on after baby turns 6 months but if I mention it in front of anyone here I get weird looks. I do it with my little one and he has not pooped in his nappy for over a month it might just me a coincident but who knows. I ask him potty? And show him his potty and just sit him on it and he will usually have a wee. But recently he has started making this noise and we figured out he makes that noise everytime he needs toilet so we sit him on and wait few minutes.
There's a whole group of mummas on here who have already started with a potty and they gave me some incredible advice and talked about the benefits of it from a young age. Honestly, I wish I had started already, I'll probably go and get a potty soon to start so my LG can get used to it. Don't feel judged, if anything, do some research into it and you'll probably feel more confident about doing it. Some people, just love to judge.
I am 100% with you on this! We started potty ‘training’ our girl at 6 months. She’s going on there like 5 times a day now and does both on there. I get some funny looks from other moms as well but I am not here to have a 4 year old still in nappies. Ignore them and just keep doing what you’re doing as you are doing what’s best for you and your family!
Ive found it to be the other way round, and all of my older family members think it's odd for kids to still be in nappies at 2+ years old. I bought a potty for my almost 8 month old recently just to get him used to sitting on it etc. Put him on it without his clothes on for the first time this morning and did both on it almost straight away! More elimination communication at this age, but there's no harm in starting now. Nappies are expensive, why would you not want to get them used to a potty ASAP 🤭?
I would love to potty train my baby girl, but attending nursery makes training her more difficult. 😢
You do know that the guidelines around potty training actually say to start from as soon as they can sit It’s all due to kids going to reception in nappies But you do what feels best for you and baby We are gonna get a potty that can be used as a seat so he gets used to it but only as a seat Then when we feel he is ready go from there. Xx
This is so interesting because I thought that we didn't need to train them until they're toddlers. What kind of potty seats do you guys have or do you put it over the big one?
I put my boy on the potty too! He has done multiple wees on there and I am proud of him! He gets so happy! It's useful to do the BSL sign for potty as well so when baby is older they can sign for it. Did it with my eldest and he was in pants by 19 months! Ignore others. Most people like their children to be in nappies till they are like 3/4! I think as long are we are following our child, we are doing the right thing. Who cares what others say!
I’m sorry you’re feeling judged. It’s such a strange thing to hold an opinion on, especially when this is very common practice in many parts of the world. We purchased a potty when our girl was 6 months after discussing it with our Health Visitor, who was actually the one to recommend it and give us information as to why doing so has benefits even at such a young age. We haven’t started on it yet but that’s just because our daughter has been my teething and adjusting her sleep patterns so we’ve been too tired lol. I’m sure we will start using it in a week or two though. It sounds like your nan has the right idea and approach here. To my understanding, there are no downsides to this, only positives.
