Hospital notes

Hi! I was wondering if anyone has requested to be sent a copy of their pregnancy notes from their blue folder? I seen somewhere that you can request them and I really would like to have mine. If anyone who had their baby(s) at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary can you please let me know how you can do this or if the hospital even allows this. It would really help me as my pregnancy and birth were both really traumatic and reading over my notes to help regain my memory really helps me understand what happened. I know the Badger apps allows you to see this however RIE version of this was blue notes. Thank you for reading šŸ«¶šŸ½

I’m not from your area but I’m from Scotland and just got my notes through the post a few days ago after requesting them…. I googled freedom of information then my trust and had a form to complete then send via email back to them with 2 forms of ID. In my notes are all the notes from booking appointment to being discharged from midwife to health visitors Feel free to message me too

I’ve requested mine, I just emailed the medical records team which I found on my hospitals website. I think you are always entitled to them as it is your notes for up to ten years after the birth (don’t quote me on that šŸ˜‚). Xx

@Emma thank you so much! X

@Hayley thank you! How long after requesting did they take to come? X

@Sophie could try this Richard Mutch, Freedom of Information Communications Manager, Lothian NHS Board,Ā  0131 465Ā 5687,Ā  loth.freedomofinformation@nhs.scot

@Sophie 2 weeks I was very surprised as was expecting it to take longer but they came through the post signed for

Following this, also had my baby at the Royal infirmary in Edinburgh and would like the notes x

Hiya! I had my son at Edinburgh Royal and I got a birth debrief and requested my Labour notes and they gave them to me and talked through them with me. From memory it was booked in through my health visitor x

You have a right to your notes so they can’t deny this for you. Call your GP and ask if HV isn’t helpful x

@Sophia I had a debrief and I got a letter in the post of what we discussed but it wasn’t in full detail cos my obstetrician didn’t have full access. So there’s still so many unanswered questions etc

Oh that’s not okay, can you push further and just ask for your records via every channel possible? Also maybe contacting your local MSP to help?

I can see a lot of people have had horrible experiences at the Royal Infirmary. Went for a debrief as well and all they did was applogise in such a fake way.

@Agnes I had the best experience possible cannot complain. I’m only asking if I can request to see my medical forms for me as I have no memory and reading helps me deal with my personal trauma

Hey everyone! Just wanted to say hi. I’ve also requested mine through a Freedom of Information (FOI) request. When my son was born, I did the same request all my pregnancy and birth notes. They have 20 days to send it, and they’ll post everything to you. Mine came printed on yellow pages and it was a huge document! now I have the full record. So once you put in the request, you should receive yours within the 20 days too!
