My baby boy does this as well and I don’t know what to do and he does a clicking sound when he is eating I’m so confused on what I should do can anyone help
I have this with my 4.5 week old. I think it's down to tiredness and having to work really hard to get the milk especially when cluster feeding. Today has been exhausting, hoping it's going to get better as he gets more established. I hear it gets better from 2-3 months. If you are concerned maybe bring up with hv?
Thank you guys for your comments! I might ring the HV team tomorrow just to ask. To be honest I do think it’s down to tiredness as she struggles sleeping in the day even though I try so hard to get her to nap she just resists it a lot. X
I have the same problem with my 3-week old, especially in the evening hours. I was told it’s probably because I gave him a dummy before breastfeeding was fully established, and now he’s having nipple confusion (he also gets a bottle once a day so that might be adding to it). Still don’t understand why he only gets confused in the evenings though
Also struggling with this literally right now! My baby is 5 weeks and has always had a good latch and breast fed well. There’s always a period in the evening where she gets super fussy, and is on and off my boob! I think it’s because she’s over tired and is fighting it. A bath is the only way I can settle her! 😩
@Emma @Emily sounds like tongue tie but the less common version where it is not the extension issue but, the wave motion their tongue can’t do . My baby had this, she would get frustrated because she was working hard to get the milk and even though she could latch well, she couldn’t feed easily. My babies was missed by multiple midwives and it was only found by an experienced lactation specialist. Signs are baby thrusts back and forth on breast, clicking sounds , milk residue on tongue, υtongue not lifting to roof of mouth when crying. Hope that helps!
I have this exact issue with my little one (4 weeks on weds) she has been feeding so well and weight gain is great. Health visitor has been to check her latch and my supply and was really happy with both, she basically just said this is typical baby behaviour so frustrating but nothing to do about it really. @Ece I found the HV were really negative about dummies but my girl has had one since pretty much day 1 and she's been feeding and gaining weight so well - I don't know how true it is that they get confused! Hopefully all our babies settle down soon!! X
Were the same- almost 4 weeks. Was at my wits end after two hours of not latching and being really really upset! I came to the conclusion that she was overtired… once properly calmed down, she finally fed for a couple of mins before drifting off to dreamland. It’s so so so hard when they act like that- bless them xxx
My boy does this occasionally, mainly when he’s super tired. I pop on nipple shields during these times and it seems to help, I just got them from Boots. Might be worth trying x
