Outside activities for kiddos

Hi!! Looking for some outside activities to do with kids other than the library, park, zoo, or indoor play places 😆 bonus points if it’s free. I homeschool so I want to make sure they have a lot of social interaction :)

Planting some seeds?- me and my lo (3.5) planted some wildflower seeds today in the communal garden at the back of our flats - you can get seeds from pound shop so almost free - im not that green fingered - so it’s 50:50 as to whether we get flowers but it was fun x

@danielle awwww I love that!!!

Walking through woods if you have some near you

Splash pad or pool in the summer!

You could look into homeschool days hosted by local museums and historical parks. Usually free or low cost, plus a nice educational supplement.

See, there’s 4 types of “parks” here- normal playground park, water splash park where it’s a playground but water splashes up only in summer from 12-8pm water is on, skate parks where there’s a course and they can ride scooter or bike, and then a nature park like a walking trail. I go park hopping, I’ve been to maybe 20ish parks over the years- something new for the toddler to see even though yes it’s a park but it’s got new play things and different courses etc. Museum usually have a toddlers area, aquarium is great if you have a yearly pass (or zoo pass) even the zoo, we have 4 around us, under an hr away they’re all different so you could go to a different zoo, one we went to was more of a wildlife zoo they had roaming deers and peacocks and kangaroos (that stuck their head in our prams and tried to steal our food lol) and water theme parks- they get $ though so that’s a whole day out 10-6 usually for us, make the entry price worth it lol we’ve been to 4 just over the last summer.

But sand tubs and water tubs, gardening watering herbs, snipping and trimming bushes he does w me, or cutting chillies (learning how to use the shears) etc. trampoline or trampoline places.

Check out museums in your area. I always loved Jelly Belly factory tours as a kid! They were free and gave out free samples. And there was a park outside to eat and play with other families.

Have you looked to see if there are any homeschool meet-ups or playgroups in your area? The 1000 hours outside group has sub-groups for most states that might help you find local homeschoolers who also prioritize outside time. My boys spend a lot of time outside playing in their mud kitchen, riding bikes, and engaging in imaginary play. We also enjoy chalk, bubbles, gardening, playing with our dog, learning to identify plants/trees/insects.
