Bottle aversion/possible CMPA

My little girl is just 4 months and struggling really badly with not wanting her bottle (exclusively formula fed since birth). She was ill in hospital for a couple of days 6 weeks ago with a virus and since around that time she’s been not wanting to take the bottle. Have to keep switching between the dummy and the bottle and eventually she will take it but after about 20 mins of pushing it away. She also now only will feed if not being held and prefers lying flat! Dr advises us to trial Aptamil Pepti for a week in case it’s CMPA, but she doesn’t have any other symptoms. The very occasional spit up and a bit uncomfortable during feeds but very happy at all other times and sleeps fairly well. Does this sound like CMPA or maybe something else?

Teething? My son refused bottles when he was teething which started around 4 months. Our son had CMPA and used to cry 24/7, rashes, stringy poo, loose poo, issues with reflux x

My little girl had CMPA and also bottle aversion caused by the pain she was associating with the bottle. The only position she will feed in is lying on our legs. We also followed steps in the book by Rowena Bennett which helped with the bottle aversion x

Could it be silent reflux? So feeling uncomfortable whilst feeding? Xx

This sounds like silent reflux, it can come hand in hand with CMPA but I’d say the silent reflux is more likely causing the pain associated with feeding leading to the reluctance to feed. My little girl had this and it was left untreated for so long by our GP who refused to do anything that she stopped feeding as her throat was burned by the acid and she was in too much pain to feed x

@Jade ah that’s interesting, I did wonder if maybe it was that but she’s fine after being fed, not uncomfortable or anything - was that the same for you?

Is the flow too slow for her and she's not getting it quick enough and possibly taking in too much air and that's why she's uncomfortable and taking a while to feed x

In between feeding my little girl was always very happy and smiley, her pain was linked directly to her feeding and for a very small period of time afterwards. She also never had any issues sleeping or being laid flat x
