Bath after c-section

When is it safe to have a bath after having a c-section? .. I am 6 weeks post c-sec today and I am dying for a bath, I have been only showering and I am a real bath person. My post natal check isnt for another 2 weeks, is it best to wait for that or will it be ok now?

I couldn’t wait any longer and had a bath at 4 weeks after my C-section, I’m 8 weeks today and had no issues x

I’ll be honest, the post natal check with the GP won’t really tell you much! I think I waited 6-7 weeks before having one. As long as your wound isn’t open/infected anyway it should be fine!

Id say go for it if you can raise yourself in and out of the bath okay and if the outside of your scar is healed

This is going to sound really stupid probs but how do you know its fully healed? It looks okay butI dont know how its suppose to look 🙁 looks more healed in some places than others x

I had a midwife appointment at just under 3 weeks post section and she told me then I could have a bath as it looked like it was healing well. I did wait a bit longer though - until 6 weeks post section and then limited it to 20 mins, but it was absolutely fine!

So actually you don’t need your scar to “fully heal” to have a bath. I went into my emergency obstetric unit because I happened to be nearby and I had pain in just one side that I found odd but turned out completely normal for just 8 days postpartum. To my surprise the midwife also confirmed my scar was at that stage fully watertight and I could bath all I wanted. She said it may be sensitive to very hot water but other than discomfort I wasn’t risking anything. I was over the moon and took a scolding hot bath 2 days later. And then many more. My scar was still red and I didn’t think it was at that point at all.
