Baby Hates Car

This is my second baby who hates the car and it’s so hard because we live in a remote area where we NEED to drive to get anywhere. Any tips? It appears that she doesn’t really hate the car seat itself, but hates being in the car and away from us (separation anxiety). If we swing her car seat while holding it outside of the car she won’t cry, but she cries and screams in the car. We can’t sit in the back with her because there’s no room with two car seats.

I was just going to post about this! It’s been terrible. I can’t take her anywhere because as soon as we start driving it’s screaming. Sometimes she will fall asleep after she exhausts herself but I feel like a terrible mom. We haven’t been able to travel over an hour because she won’t calm down and then it’s not fair to her or me who is trying to pay attention. Help!!

Our baby hates the car too. I have to sit in the back with mine because thankfully there’s room. Have you taken a look into that evenflo car seat they made for babies who hate cars? I’ll see if I can link it

No advice just here to say I understand your pain... 2nd daughter and mine does not like to be trapped/confined. She is only okay w the car moving, and if she hasn't been in the carseat over about 1.5 hrs (so if we leave her in it while shopping that shortens how long she is okay with things (we live about 30 mins away from most places we shop/go to)

I've seen some people put up a picture of mom on the seat for baby to look at? Not sure if it actually works but maybe worth a try?

Yeppp I think it's just this age! My little guy has no issue until just recently...now he's hating it. We also live rurally so traveling has become so stressful. I normally plan things for nap time that way he will sleep but then it gets complicated for the ride home. A mirror has helped sometimes....toys on his car seat handle especially ones that rattle because the movement of the car shakes it for me....a pacifier to chew on (he's never used a binki to soothe but he loves it to chew on like a teether). Singing helps for a few mins. The only thing that helped with my daughter when she went through this phase as a baby was really engaging toys. Like ones that sing...so like the little dog toy with all the buttons on it? That sings? I'd load up the front seat with all her singing toys and just continuously press the buttons for the whole trip...

I’ve seen people use those baby aquariums in their car to entertain them. Maybe worth a shot? Or some babies hate car sunlight if your car is untinted and needs shades. Hoping they change their mind soon about car rides.
