Baby blues?

Hi! I am wondering if this is normal and if any other new moms have felt this and if so when it went away?? I just had a baby last Thursday and have a 15 month old at home. At about 1pm for the past 2 days I get extremely tired and start to feel sad. I don’t want to do anything or go anywhere I just want to lay there. My husband is super helpful and I’ve actually been getting a decent amount of sleep. I’ve been eating well and taking care of myself so I’m not sure why I feel so sad. I just cry and want to sleep. It sucks I’ve had anxiety my whole life but I’ve never felt this sadness/tired feeling. Just getting off the couch feels like a chore. It really sucks and I’m unsure if it’s just baby blues or the start of PPD?

Also I had a horrible birth this time. With my son it was beautiful but this time it was not good. My epidural had to get redone 3 times, my baby’s heart rate dropped, I was told if I couldn’t push him out in 4 pushes at 9cm I’d need a c section due to his heart rate (cord wrapped around him) had to use the vaccum and felt them stitch me up after. Nothing like my first birth so so horrible it will be my last birth

If you have a doctor or OB/GYN, I’d encourage you to mention this to them. I can’t remember technically what the criteria is for PPD, but I think it’s something like the feelings associated with baby blues but that last for a longer time. I ended up with pretty severe PPD and ended up taking medication, which I’m still on and hope to wean off of once I can start getting a bit better sleep. I also saw a therapist for a while. Hoping you can give yourself all kinds of grace in this tough time!

Just to add, my birth experience was traumatic for me, and if you feel like yours was traumatic, I definitely think that can play into PPD. Definitely something to talk about with someone who can support you and give you help ❤️

After birth your hormones are all messed up. Your body is going through a lot still. This is normal. It’s hard but it will get better! Keep taking care of yourself and see a doctor if you need additional help. Antidepressants helped me a lot.
