Gunky eye

Hey, is it normal for my baby to have a gunky eye? it’s teary and releases yellow liquid, I’ve been boiling hot water and wiping her eyes every time it gets dirty (obvz wait for the water to cool down) but it’s not making a difference at all. Is there anything I can do to fix it or is this normal??

We’ve struggled with this, my son has had terrible gunky eyes from birth that comes and goes. I’ve taken him to the doctors twice and they say it’s cosmetic! One thing I found helpful (if you can) is don’t over clean it, we find if we clean it too much it flares up badly 🥹 it’ll get better on its own and is normal as long as the whites of the eyes aren’t red x

A midwife suggested wiping the eye with a bit of breastmilk to help clear it up with my LO. It work a better than the cooled down boiled water for us but still took a few weeks to clear up. You could try that if you can (completely understand that not everyone can use bm for loads of different reasons), but it will probably just clear up on it's own either way. No one was worried about it, so I assume it's just normal for some babies

Sounds like a blocked tear duct. That’s what we were told by our doctor. It was one eye only and sometimes would even seal his eye shut from when he’s sleeping. We just wiped it away with a wet washcloth and it eventually stopped, which is what we were told would happen. Think it was like that for a few months.

Thank you guys 🫶🏼
