How much formula?!

I've recently moved from EBF to formula and have absolutely no idea on the amount of formula I should be giving in a 24 hour period. Do your formula fed babies still take a bottle in the night? Mine seems hungry because he was used to breast feeding during the night. I just don't want to overfeed.

Hiya! I did the same when my son was 5 months old and to be honest I just winged it! One bottle he had 8oz, then others 4oz, 5oz etc. It can take a while for them to build a routine around bottles and the amounts to fill them up. My son has 4 bottles of 210ml every 3 hours and sometimes an extra bottle of a smaller amount just before bed if the times work out that way but he doesn’t always drink it. As long as they’re getting over 600ml a day then they should be getting enough formula! It’s a lot harder to overfeed them now at this age because they will push the bottle away, turn away when they don’t want anymore so don’t worry about that. My son sometimes pushes the bottle away when there’s still an oz left and so I leave it a minute give him a burp (sometimes a burp in him makes him not want to drink the last bit) and then I will try again, if he drinks it then fine but if he doesn’t I just leave it no matter the amount. All different reasons can affect them not drinking it xx

I feed my baby 4 bottles per day. I make up 8oz bottles. She sometimes drinks the lot and sometimes she doesn't. Her last feed is 21:30 and her first feed is about 7:00. The recommendation is they should have at least 600ml whilst weaning

He has been having a full bottle in the night recently but since moving to 3 meals a day (same amount of formula) he has stopped the night time formula and sleeps the night finally. But it’s completely normal for them to still need 1 night time bottle. Your little one might wake up frequently out of habit for milk due to breastfeeding, you can offer some formula at first in the night if you prefer but I started giving little bits of water to help him go back to sleep, no more than around 2oz and this was enough to get him back to sleep but wean him off the need for milk x

It’s better for you to make up say a 210ml bottle and for them to only drink 150ml for example, than to offer too little and they’re still hungry. After some wasted formula you’ll soon find out how much they drink at each bottle feed and find your routine, good luck xxx

I dropped her lunchtime bottle for food instead and she dropped her nighttime feed at the same time so I upped her other bottles so she has 3 9oz bottle but drinks around 26oz . Online days between 24-32 I think x

My baby has 5 7oz bottles a day with 3 hour intervals and none at night and also food during the day as he’s 8 months if this helps 😊
