Forward facing

My daughter is 2 (27 months ) and we still have her rear facing and recently my husband keeps talking about he wants to turn her to forward facing … I am still unsure on if we should do that my anxiety is just insane about it … I have googled about it especially for the state I live in an I am honestly confused because one thing says once they turn 2 you can and then other people post or pages I have seen say to wait to do that until at least ages 4 or 5 … so I am just curious to see if any one has there 2 year old forward facing yet

Technically you can turn them at 2. Obviously it depends on your car seat too. Personally I’m waiting as long as I can because their neck muscles and cartilage isn’t fully developed and are way more prone to neck injury if forward facing in an accident. My car seat can be rear facing up to 40 pounds and my 2 year old is only 29 pounds right now so I plan to keep her rear until she hits 40 pounds. I may even get her a new car seat so I can keep her rear longer depending on how fast she gains weight. I think it’s a personal decision between you and your husband but definitely do all the research on neck injury and the benefits and drawbacks before you make a decision. Also read into what your particular car seat says.

@Molly iam in the same boat personally I want to keep her rear facing as long as I can!

I agree. I’m also keeping my son rear facing for however long I can.

I didn’t turn my eldest until she was 3+. She was 40 lbs. You should go by the height and weight measurements of your car seat. Not by your husbands opinion. Rear facing is safer longer. My 2 year old is also 29 lbs and I have no intention of turning her around anytime soon. My car seat allows rear facing up to 40 lbs.

We just turned our daughter’s seat forward. It’s just became very dangerous for me to put her in. She is over average height and weight and our car is sedan, plus I’m 24weeks pregnant now so it won’t get any easier moving forward. I would have like to keep her rear facing, maybe if we had a different type of car or seat that rotates. Well at least she really likes it now as she can see more of what’s going on
