My LO needs to be constantly held

Hey everyone, my LO is 5 weeks old and needs to be held constantly throughout the day. Exhaustion aside, I'm worried about how to manage this once I have to go back to work in a few weeks. Please share any words of advice or experience you have.

Baby is only 5 weeks old. They've been in your belly for 9 months so it's perfectly natural and normal for them to want to be carried and held. You can use a baby carrier to meet that need until you go to work. It will get better with time. Holding your baby does not make them spoilt. They're a baby that require physical closeness. It's a basic need they have.

My baby used to be like this and literally this week she started sleeping on her own and being okay with being put down đŸ©· I was worried it would never end but she’s sleeping for 8hr stretches by herself at 3 months!

His 5 weeks!! He wants you, he needs you mama!

Are you open to wearing them? They are so little it’s very normal for them to want to be held. You’re not doing anything wrong ♄ I know that’s not actual advice but I don’t have any. I just hold my babies most of the day. They will give you some freedom once they are moving.

@Sarah 🎀 I've been thinking about this. Do you know if they wake and sleep in them?

@Betsy that gives me hope, thank you

My LO is doing the same, everyone says she will never sleep on her own if I don't leave my gurl alone.

@Huma same! They keep telling me I'm spoiling her and that it will become a bad habit. I don't see it that way but still makes me worry.

That’s normal. It’d be worrying if they didn’t want to be held. Appreciate your concern about returning to work. But it’s a normal and healthy want from the baby.

@Sadhana yes they will wake up whenever they are done sleeping! And they will eventually get used to any noise and movement that startles them.

@Sadhana you’re definitely not!! I kept hearing the same thing and was beginning to wonder if I was but baby girl just grew out of it naturally. Now I kind of miss sleeping next to her 😭

Swaddle swaddle swaddle

@Breana does swaddle help ?

Your kid will be attached to you for like a whole year plus. You’re the mom, and you’re their comfort. They can smell you. All I can recommend is getting a baby carrier so you can get stuff done. And if family is going to watch your baby have them spend time with the baby so they’re used to family member snd will be an easier transition. If you’re dropping off daycare then I think you don’t really have a choice.

@Breana can we swaddle in the morning as well?

@Huma Yes, makes them feel like they're in the womb and eventually puts them to sleep. Remember if the child does fall asleep, place the child in their crib on their back, no blankets or toys. Just them in their swaddle blanket.

@Sadhana You can swaddle your baby until they start to turn on their side. Once they start turning they'll need their arms for support. So until then, swaddle away!

Sometimes little babies get a bit frustrated because of their newborn involuntary movements, so swaddling keeps them nice and snug, not stuck, but kept in place just right for maximum relaxation and rest.

@Breana Thank you, I will definitely try this
