Anyone else struggling with a fast letdown when breastfeeding

I had the same issue with my first child and thought it was from expressing too early but I’ve not expressed this time and it’s still happening. She chokes and gets annoyed. I’m going to go to a breastfeeding group but wondered if anyone had any tips in the meantime? I am trialling hand expressing some first.

Have you tried reclined positions? Xx

@Claudia no I’ve not! Thank you I’ll look into it x

Don't no if this will help but sometimes babies just take in a lot at 1 time because they're hurrying and tend to choke on the milk like Claudia said reclined position might help. Or if he's drinking fast give him a break in-between then start again. Xxx

@Christie it helped us so hoping it does the same for you!!!! Xx

Thank you both xx

Also would recommend popping a Hakka or something similar on before you latch the baby (if you have time) just to catch the initial let down and make it easier for them to latch x

Side lying position can do the same as reclined and I personally found it easier

@Charlotte thanks I’ve got a Haakaa so I’ll give it a go xx

@Jaime will try this too! Xx

Just wanted to check back in and say I’ve been using a Mandela manual pump to express some off at first and then a reclined position and it’s working great for us. I will let her latch to bring the milk then take her off and use the pump to express an ounce or so (which comes really quickly) and then put her back on. She does cry whilst I’m pumping but it’s much better than what was happening before where she would choke and then completely refuse the nipple whilst getting so worked up 🙈 thanks for your help xx
