Sleeping at midnight

My toddler has been refusing his nap schedule and has moved to another time, pushing it nearly 4 pm or 5 every day for 2 weeks now. He is up until nearly midnight. I'm always tired because he sleeps late and I can't go sleep until he goes to bed first. I don't think this is normal. Toddler, his age, sleeps longer and earlier than midnight. He only sleeps 8bor 9 hrs a night and it's interrupted as well not straight. His nap is only 1 and 30 mins or 2 hrs at most.

Can’t you just turn 5pm into bedtime?

Have you tried waking him up a couple of hours earlier in the morning so that he might need his nap earlier too

My daughter has been doing this to lately but the latest is 10:30. She use to sleep for 2 - 2.5 from 10-12.30 but now rarely ever has a day nap, if she doesn’t have a sleep by 2 in the afternoon I keep her up till at least 6:30 because then she sleeps through, if she goes to sleep 5 she gets up around midnight til about 2 so it is really hard but hang in there

@HMK that would be so early i think.

@Nora tried it but he would go back sleep 2 or 3 hrs after waking up in the morning.

@Tamika it used to be 10:30 too but I guess it was pushed because of his late napping. I tried to put him down for a nap early afternoon but still would sleep nearly midnight.

Also tried keeping him entertained and skipped napping in the afternoon and successfully he went to bed at 8pm. I was happy that finally I could make him sleep early but to my surprise he woke up 2hrs after that ( so that was the missed nap I think ) and he slept midnight that time and it basically started that day but even though nap is after lunch still he is a late sleeper. Problem is if he goes early like 8 or 9pm he would wake up 5am or 4am.

I’m thinking maybe this could be a regression hey 😫 it’s defiantly hard especially when we are so tired and can only sleep when our LO does. But yeah if my daughter went to sleep at 5 she would get up close to midnight or sometimes 2-3am

Cap his nap at 30-60 mins max? Sounds like nap is too long. I have to cap my little boys or else he’s trying to stay up until 10pm

Today he only had 1 hr nap and I thought he would be tired but he slept at 11pm. We were already in bed at 10pm.
