Not many words :(

Io only says muma, no and iya. I feel like my he is so frustrated, he will literally point at everything and screech. I feel like 90% of the time he is upset. Worried :( at what point would you go to hv about this?

Mine doesn’t say much, makes a lot of sounds but very few proper words… she understands so much though if I ask her to get things/do something etc. my first was the same but he’s 3 now and his speech is amazing.

I would probably say if you’re concerned by the 2 year check with the health visitor and no progression has been made, then bring it forward! Children change and develop so much in such a small amount of time, my little girl went from saying nothing to saying so much in the space of a week! They get there in their own time, but it sounds like he has some words! Children also understand more than what they speak when they’re younger too❤️

When was birthday? Mine was 02.10.23 and the past 2 weeks he has just exploded with new words . Previously was 1 per 2 months then 1 word per 3 weeks then recently several words per week and yesterday he learned 3 new words. It may be just around the corner if not I'd call HV at 19mo

@Alex hey his birthday is 30th October :) okay thank you x

I'm not sure how old your child is, but nonverbal language, e.g, pointing, and sign language counts as part of his speech. Don't worry. Each child is different. If he starts school and he isn't talking yet, then I would be worried. I am sure you do it already, but make sure you talk a lot to him, sing, put music, read books some TV if you like that for him of course. I am sure he is doing great.

Mama dada and baba (baby) I think it’s super normal, she was an early walker and climber and can definitely understand what I say, all comes in time :) eldest was chatty early but walked at 15 months! All different :) xx

My 17 month old doesn’t say anything it’s more grunts and we asked our health visitor and she’s getting a developmental assessment done at 18 months to see if a speech and language therapist could be helpful to her :)
