@Catherine I used to work in a nursery but a few years ago now and we would change at least every 3 hours or sooner if soiled. She has just moved into pre school room and it seems like chaos. I’ve emailed the manager with my concerns x
I work in an early years setting doing intervention for children with autism, learning disability and complex needs. We technically are not a childcare setting but we still have to follow the minimum standards. We have a group who are in for 2 hours 15 mins, so they all need to be changed. And as you said, if soiled they should be changed! You’re definitely right to email, the manager may not be aware and it might be a good reminder for best practice x
I worked in a nursery and there was a set time for nappy changes and a set member of staff assigned to it. ALL nappy wearing children would be changed at that time unless they had been changed like in the 15 minutes previous. Soiled would be changed immediately. If they seemed quite wet we would change. I would definitely expect better!
National Minimum Standards for childcare state children should be changed if in a setting for longer than 2 hours, so even if it was 2 hours 5 mins, child should be changed!
