Post partum essentials

What items are people packing in their hospital for after giving birth? I've seen kits with recommended items such as disposable underwear, cooling pads and a peri bottle which looks good but was curious how much people actually found these items useful

I didn’t use cooling pads or a peri bottle with my first baby I didn’t really know much about it. I use thick pads but really wish I used disposable underwear ! As the amount of times I leaked especially at night was annoying. This time around I might get some thicker pads again and some disposable underwear and I’ve heard spritz for bits is suppose to be good but I’ve never actually tried it. And never use strong products when washing I got told just get the shower head and put it on your private area and it soothes the pain so much. And when your milk comes in your chest area will be so sore sensitive and uncomfortable just make you have enough breast pads

I gave birth naturally, but assisted in theatre. Also had an episiotomy. Personally, I found all of the things youve mentioned SO helpful. Disposable underwear for the first few days, then pads. I felt the pads irritated me in the beginning. The best pads for me were boots own brand in pink packaging. Also the disposable underwear was comfy to sleep in A peri bottle helped keep things feeling fresh & was soothing The pads from boots were you snap them & they go super cold. I only used one box, really nice to have in case I was a bit more swollen/sore. Spritz for bits was amazing!! I'd put it directly onto a pad and it instantly took any discomfort away Nipple cream (I got my expert midwife but any will probs do). I've used it a few times in this pregnancy too Xx

i’ve got some disposable underwear/adult nappies for the first few days just for convenience but also stocked up on larger pads to use in comfy cotton underwear x

Peri bottle good for natural birth especially if you get stuck in hospital - you can’t really use toilet paper for a while! I never had nor felt the need for the rest, pads were enough for me. But maybe I got lucky. I also remember the boots ones being good.

I’ve got period pants from wuka. They’re suitable for post partum as hold a lot.. but can also wear with pads. I didn’t have a natural birth with my first so can’t help on what is needed for down there, but I do know that if it ends in section you need HUGE knickers that come above your belly button otherwise they’ll rub on your incision x

I just bought big knickers and maternity pads. I went home in my nighty and flip flops too. It was all very basic stuff for me and worked well
