Naps

How did you know when your little one was ready to drop their nap?my LB still naps in the middle of the day, for up to 2 hours. I have been capping it at 1 hour 30mins but I think we need to make it shorter. He always seems exhausted and I couldn't imagine him going the whole day without. Did you shorten yours or just cut them out altogether? Oh, we also took away his dummy (well he gave it to the dummy fairy) on Saturday so bedtimes have been a lot harder lately but even before he was taking 30+mins to go down at night.

I think the easiest way is to try it. For us our daughter isn’t ready to drop it. If she skips her nap, especially on busy days when she’s at nursery, she’s very moody and difficult from the middle of the afternoon onwards. We cap our naps like you do and for us that makes a huge difference. I follow a family on TikTok though and when they dropped their nap, they started doing quiet play instead. So during the time they would usually nap, they are only allowed one small toy out and have to spend that time either reading or drawing or doing something more chilled so they still get some kind of break. For them it seems to really work so we’ll definitely be trying that when we’re ready to drop it

What are his wake up/nap times/bed times? It sounds like if he’s able and willing to nap for 1.5-2hrs and exhausted it doesn’t seem he’d be ready to drop a nap My daughter still naps for 1.5-2hrs and she’s roughly the same age- again she gets really ratty/overtired/silly without a nap x

My boy doesn’t nap and hasn’t done in about 6 months, he wakes about 6am and goes to bed between 6.30-7.30 x

We are still holding on to it. The two days she goes nursery she does not nap and she is unbelievably miserable, doesn’t eat her dinner, cries through bathtime etc. I don’t cap it but I have noticed of late she has started to wake after less than 2 hours.

@Kee my LO nap is 1 hour from 1-2 but recently wakes after 2 hours of sleep so I’m thinking to cap it to 45 mins see if that helps

Thank you so much. Think we are going to cap at 1 hour maximum and see how it goes. Has anyone recently taken away th dummy?
