Birth control

Hey, Breastfeeding mamas! What birth control are you planning on going on and why? I have my 6 week pp appointment Monday, and I'm not sure what birth control to get on that won't affect my supply

Condom

They just put me on the mini pill? I just started it

My doctor recommended me a pill that's just progesterone so she said it won't affect my supply, I started yesterday I'm planning on putting an IUD when I'm 12 weeks pp

They also prescribed me the mini pill

Phexxi, it’s non hormonal and then a condom/pulling out😂 for extra caution

I’m 6 weeks PP and got the copper iud yesterday. I tried the pill years ago and got very depressed so I didn’t/ don’t want anything with hormones.

I’m getting the implant because I had it beforehand and it was amazing for regulating my period

For anyone thinking of the IUD- just a warning, but I’m now a first time mom to a 6week old bc my iud failed. Apparently it’s very common for them to drop to your cervix and therefore become ineffective 😂🫣

@Chloe whaaaaat.. I was thinking about getting the copper IUD

I got an IUD at my 6 week appointment. OB recommended it based on it having the least effect on milk supply. OB placed the IUD with ultrasound guidance and I have another 6 week follow-up to check the strings. I thought about doing natural family planning but OB said it was very effective when periods are regular but a lot of miss the first time they ovulate and get pregnant. I was not changing getting pregnant around 6 months PP. Love my baby and definitely want more but not yet.

@Chloe Sorry that happened! But I hope you’re enjoying baby snuggles!! I definitely wouldn’t say common since it’s the most effective birth control. The rate of expulsion is 2-10% within the first year and about 2-4% after. Although, for mamas the rate of expulsion is about 30% if placed before 4 weeks PP. but after that it’s only 1.9%. @Allison that’s very interesting! On a large scale I’m sure it is a rare experience, I only say it can be common because for some odd reason, I now know 3 other women in my small hometown that also got pregnant with iuds in, plus when I was gonna get it my sister and friend who are nurses also told me that and that they’ve seen it fail. It doesn’t feel very rare to me haha but I suppose I’m biased 😂

@Chloe haha that’s so crazy!! I’ve never met someone that it happened to.

I’m getting a hormonal IUD in two weeks. Fingers crossed it works out fine! I’ve heard horror stories 😮‍💨

@Erin I had one before having a baby and it HURT! Not the worst but definitely hurt. After having a baby I literally didn’t feel it!!
