Elective c section but terrified of feeling ill/getting the shakes

Can anyone put my mind at ease Of positive stories of if you had the shakes how long did they last and also if you felt or were sick/nauseous? I’m emetophobic and have a terrible fear of throwing up during the surgery. At least after the surgery, I’ll be sat up lol. Do the meds kick in quick if you mention feeling sick? Crazy this is the bit I’m most nervous about but. X

Hey hun I do feel the same about my csection as well that's why I opted fir general anesthetic

They give you anti sickness straight away before the surgery begins just in case and you may shake a little from the spinal block - my jaw kept shaking like I was cold but didn’t last very long. I loved my section, it was so calm, there was music playing, the surgical team were really lovely too! You’ll be absolutely fine. You’re in safe hands xx

My first section had absolutely no side effects and enjoyed the whole experience. My second, I had every symptom going, but was still fine! I’m also absolutely terrified of being sick too and I was during my second and it was ok. It was only initially when the spinal went in and then it passed. I then got itchy and shaky once in recovery. You’ll have a midwife and someone from recovery with you and you’ll be distracted by baby and so pleased it’s all done! It wears off pretty quickly in my experience.

I had the shakes for about 90 minutes after. Was given an IV to help.

I didn't feel sick at all, but I did get the shakes. They told me they couldn't give me anything until baby was out, which took only a couple of minutes. Then as soon as they gave it I felt immediately better

I was the exact same, and as soon as i said I felt sick, they administered the anti-sickness and I felt so much better! I had a couple of minutes of shakes at the start of the c section, but they stopped quite quickly and I was soon distracted once baby came (which was so quick). I literally spent the last 7 weeks of my pregnancy getting so anxious about the birth it would make me shake at the thought of feeling poorly (sometimes I can pass out if I do so I was terrified for this), but actually when it came to it I felt fine which is strange and really surprised me X

Thanks ladies 💖

Didn't have any shakes or sickness during the procedure. I did have sickness after the surgery though once I started eating and unfortunately the anti sickness medication didn't do anything for me I just had to wait it out, after 24 hours it had completely passed. I had the same thing with my first birth (not a C-section but had a spinal for stitches and would have had some of the same meds since I was in theatre) so it's how I personally react to either the spinal or the meds and may not be something that you also experience. I would imagine it's not the norm to not respond to the anti sickness meds either that's just the case for me personally.

I’ve got emetophobia, when you’re waiting for the section all different doctors/midwives will come see you I asked all of them to make sure I have antisickness meds in surgery and they did. I felt absolutely fine no shakes no sickness. In fact I was lay on the table telling them how hungry I was and ready for a meal😆

I had the shakes during the procedure and in the recovery room. The shakes were gone about 2h after surgery and I never had any sickness personally.
