C-section advice for a nervous mumma-to-be!

Hi ladies, I’m currently 36+3 and have had my final consultation and have agreed to have a planned c-section between 39-40 weeks due to baby being very big. A c-section wasn’t on my plan initially due to my fear of anything ‘medical’, but I think I’ve made the right decision. I really want to have a calm and enjoyable birth and I’m worried my fear will get in the way of me taking in the moment. Does anyone have any advice, techniques, things they did etc to make the experience as nice as possible? Thanks 🙏

I took some lavender oil in on a cotton pad and had it on the pillow near me which helped , I chose a play list which they played during which really helped keep me calm , and they spoke to me throughout which helped keep me focused on meeting my daughter , before the section my husband and I sat and just talked and cuddled , he massaged my head and neck which helped relax me before I went in x

My planned section was lovely! Playlist on and the doctors singing along and really calm and helpful.

I had such a lovely experience too, the team all introduced themselves and what their purpose of being in the room was. Talked me through the whole thing as that was my request. We had the opportunity to take photos, listen to music, pod casts. And as someone has said essential oils on cotton pads. Take anything that brings you comfort personally x

I was terrified of C-section and wanted to have natural birth but had to do emergency C-section when the day came (had a day of contractions and 7cm dilated but baby’s heat rate started dropping). Since I didn’t get to the active pushing phase I felt C-section was the blessing as I was already exhausted. Seriously they do it all for you, you don’t have to go through the pains of labour and have potential complications. Yes it’s a surgery and yes you have to lay down in a bed for 2 days straight but if you have reliable support of your loved ones it will pass in a blink. And even if not, hospital stuff will look after you and your baby well. You might feel helpless and It will be hard to get off the bed for a while. It’s advisable to do easy exercises to get your muscles healed back. Again, we all have our own experiences and I’ve heard mothers saying it’s the worst but for me it wasn’t as bad.

It depends on your circumstances but my scar is smaller than I imagined it would be (telling you I was terrified of it) maybe 10-15cm and so low it can be hidden by bikini if you are planning to wear 2pc swim suit again. Maybe ask your doc what it’s going to be in your case. Best of luck to you and your baby. I know it’s scary but it’s all worth it in the end❤️

Honestly my c-section was a breeze. I actually felt braxton hicks in the last month was harder than a c section recovery. I didn’t even have any pain killers after surgery. Not even paracetamol. So please don’t worry about it too much. I was so worried it would be the worst pain of my life. My one recommendation is take laxatives as soon as possible. Trapped wind after surgery is no joke and you want to poo quick! My other recommendation is don’t worry about the shaking. It stops pretty quickly.

I had a C-section after having my first vaginally, and I was petrified because of the unknown. It was planned but baby decided to break my water 2 days before scheduled date, so it became an emergency C-section. But it really isn’t as bad as I had expected. I over thought it a lot and worked myself up. I would say talking through it with the nurses and the anesthesiologist is what helped me the most, They will give you anxiety medication through your iv if needed. You got this! And I agree to previous comments about the laxatives because I was backed up for over a week and a half after.

I had an emergency c section after being 10 days over, induced then 2 days labour and it was the best thing! It only takes 5 mins to get baby out then 30/45 mins to put you back together, but ask for skin to skin and you spend that time cuddling the baby! For recovery take it SLOOOOOW try to just let your body heal and take your paid killers and stool softeners. You’ll probably be sent home with injections 1 times a day a day for 10 days for blood clots but apart from that it’s great xx

My planned c section was amazing. I was nervous ( you’re bound to be ) but as soon as your baby is out (within 15 mins) you’ll forget about the ‘procedure’ I’m two weeks post partum and feel great xxx

i’ve had 3 and i’ll be having my 4th in august you’ll be absolutely fine i’ve had 1 planned and 2 emergency’s the planned ones are much easier but saying that my emergency ones wasn’t that bad either x
