Strange C section issues

Sorry for the long post. So a bit of background, I've had 2 sections, 1 emergency and 1 planned. The emergency section spinal didn't really hurt me going in and the only thing I felt during the section was the tugging. Now with the planned section it was a better experience in the end as I had a gentle section but I had some quite worrying issues in the build up to them taking my son out. First issue was the spinal was ridiculously painful even tho they apparently numbed the area, I felt everything and was finding it hard to keep my composure and stay still with all the pain. It was that bad I was sweating and felt really faint like I was going to pass out with the pain, my hearing and eyesight was also affected which normally happenes when i faint so I was quite worried I was going to fall on the deck right there and then haha. The guy doing it thought I was over reacting and said it was just pressure I was feeling and just carried on, I said in no way is that just pressure I've had a section before. Next thing I had during the section was a lot of pressure on my chest like I couldn't breath properly, I know this can happen but I also then felt extremely sick and persisted to vomit for a while until they give me something for the sickness. Now the final strange thing is all of a sudden I felt loads of pressure in my head, it came on so fast and felt like someone was trying to squish my brain in a vice, this so was painful I was crying loads and it did scare me a bit. Apparently my blood pressure went funny and they gave me some more drugs which eventually made my head feel OK. Has anyone experienced anything similar during a section?

My friend had it where her epidural pushed her brain forward from the spinal cord and she had a horrific headache for days! The hospital said if it didn’t go they would basically have to redo the epidural to reverse it but luckily it eased for her!

The spinal definitely shouldn't have hurt as they should have given you the local anaesthetic before doing the spinal. Do you know if they did that? The pressure on the chest is normal. They told me to expect that. Same with the vomiting, really common. As I was reading the part about your head I did think blood pressure and then I see you say that your blood pressure went funny and the meds they gave for that helped so I would say that's what that was. Again, not unexpected for blood pressure changes during a surgery.

I had one planned c section. I screamed as they put the needle in, so much pain, all over my back. Straight away they stopped, asked where it hurt, what the pain felt like, then gave me another numbing injection. I was about to cry as they started again through fear. But; they'd fixed the problem. What they did to you is not right. You should really consider submitting a complaint, not just for you, but for the next person. Absolutely awful. That's the difference between a nice team, and not. I believe the chest and vomiting is normal. But the spinal pain is not! That should have been fixed by them

@Natalie yeah they just ignored me even tho I was describing the pain all thru the process, i was the last section of the day so they were probably not wanting to stay any longer than they needed maybe. They also chucked my placenta even tho I requested for it to be kept so I could take it home, been meaning to write a complaint about it too as this was my last child so I was gutted.

I had an emergency c section and my experience was much like yours. My anaesthetist took 3 goes to get the needle in the right spot and it felt awful. I felt good going into the operation but then it all went downhill quickly with my epidural coming too high causing me to loose feeling up to my chin. I then felt the heavy weight on my chest and felt like I couldn’t breathe. My blood pressure plummeted so they gave me meds to bring that back down. I was so out of it I couldn’t hold my baby straight away. It was a horrible experience one I’m still working through…

@Courtney my first section I couldn't feel my arms properly and couldn't hold my daughter for a couple of hours so I get were your coming from. My first labour lasted 52 hours before i had my section too, the whole experience was horrible and I'm still not over it over 2 and a half years later.

@Amy I can’t even imagine labouring for 52hrs and then going in for a c section! It’s so tough to process! Talking about it with others that have been through similar is very healing for me though!

Not the head pressure but omg the spinal yess girl that shit was God awful. I felt like they were breaking my spine and the pain was unbearable and making me feel so ill. I thought I was gonna just die for a min I'm not kidding. I screamed I don't wanna do this and cried 😢 it was traumatic tbh... and that was w my second so I knew what was up... but yea they said it won't hurt that bad completely bullshit because it did. The chest pressure I had some of that too. And for some reason it took a while for my body to numb up the second time too. The were testing it and I kept saying yes I can still feel that. I mean probably not terrible long but I remember the first time it was almost immediate. Odd how different the experience can be for each person and each c section too

I remember feeling super light headed and nauseous like I was going to pass out and it was my BP they put something into my drip instantly that relieved thar for me. I know the pressure of chest can be normal as well but not sure why the injection was painful! X

Sounds like they could have put it in the wrong place slightly. You can get serious headaches if they do that and have to lie upside down but seems like they corrected it before that happened. That was one of my fears aswell. I still have bad back pain from mine and I could feel pain still, anaesthesiologist wanted to put to sleep but I refused and just took the pain after being drugged up x
