The baby academy do a free online class about Breastfeeding, I would recommend doing this but closer to the time when bubs is due to arrive. I wouldnât recommend buying a pump yet, but a Haakaa milk collector is a great way of collecting spare milk from the other side during feeds so it doesnât go to waste. The only other things I would buy upfront are breast pads and nipple cream, I recommend the Lansinoh brand x
Ask you midwife if they do any local classes, mine did and I also attended breastfeeding groups once baby was born to help with getting a good latch etc. make sure you have plenty of breastfeeding bras, a good water bottle and snacks to hand (makes you very thirsty and hungry during!), breast pads and I used breast milk and the silver cups to help with healing/pain x
My must haves: a comfy nursing bra, nursing pads, a milk saver and the multi mam compresses ( the only thing that eased sore nipples)
@mother.shaheda on Instagram. She is fab! Also echoing what everyone else has mentioned; washable breast pads, hakka, Lansinoh nipple cream.
Just your boobs and a nursing cushion đ
đ weâve been b00bing for 3 years now đ„° please always ask for help even when it gets tough. If youâre on Instagram, please follow Olivia Lactation Consultants, and Mamas Milk xx
NOSE TO NIPPLE- top tip. Our hospital was amazing after birth they help you get the position and after on the ward a breast feeding specialist came round to help. I didnât leave until I felt I could get the position myself at home. Donât leave until you are happy how to feed baby!! Other than that I would just say I found nipple cover milk catchers helpful to collect milk instead of breast pads and freeze the milk. I didnât bother with a cushion. Another must JUST INCASE, is those cooling breast things incase you get blocked or mastitis. I did have them and waiting in pain for the Amazon delivery was not fun(also had to go to the hospital anyway for antibiotics). Everything else doesnât matter just baby and boob!
Literally just your boobs, snacks for mum, breast pads and maybe nipple cream. I completely the open college qualification for breastfeeding support this year after over 3 years of continuous breastfeeding I have realised baby companies try to sell so much regarding breastfeeding as they can make money off your anxiety! Also please remember all these âlactationâ snacks are not backed by science and have no supporting evidence. You would be cheaper buying a pack of Maryland cookies lol
Nipple cream, Breast pads, lots of snacks and drinks for while feeding. Breastfeeding with my first was painful because of tongue tie and her not opening her mouth properly and I pumped for 7 weeks until I was able to get her back on the breast. So maybe invest in a good breast pump as well
