Anyone stopped breastfeeding or looking to stop and has tips?

I’ve been EBF my 9 month old and it’s been lovely, there’s been ups and downs but overall lovely experience. I’m going back to work in June and need to wean her off as I think it’ll be too hard carry on and she also wakes up 3/4 times at night suckles and falls asleep. Another issue is she feeds to sleep so I know it’ll be a struggle to stop! Can anyone share tips or things that have worked for them maybe in the past? I’m a FTM so completely new to this all! Thank you x

I'm back in April and so from Feb I swapped one of his 4 day feeds to a bottle. In march I've done another and so now I just have wake and sleep feeds lefts so won't affect work but do plan on swapping to bottles next month and one after as he's getting so mobile and wants to stand up and feed. I don't know how it will go but my plan for bedtime feed is to change the order of the routine so feeding is not last. and then move from BF to bottle once that feed to sleep association has been taken away. My boy doesn't feed through the night so not sure if I can help with that. I used to over rely on feeding back to sleep as it was quick. I basically just rocked back to sleep for some of them and only fed if he wasn't going back to sleep after 10/15 mins. he mostly always did and so I think it was more habit than hungry. Anyway, he now sleeps through for the last 2 months

I weaned off bf my twins at 7 months - I went back to work at 9 months. I just switched out bfs for bottles one feed at a time. I don’t have tips for night time though as stopped feeding mine overnight at 12 weeks (they had a bottle of formula at 10:30pm which usually saw them through). Do you usually do formula or breast milk in bottles ?

I don’t have any advice but this sounds exactly like me and my girl so you’re not alone! She still wakes 3 or 4 times in the night and only resettles with a small feed. We have a friends wedding in June so she needs to be weaned by then as it’s no children allowed 😳 but she won’t take a bottle (expressed or formula) so no idea how it’s all going to work!

I'm back end of April and have swapped all feeds during the day to bottles now and just feed morning and night. I plan to swap these feeds this month to bottles to stop totally but my little one still sometimes wakes once over night and is fed (this doesn't happen every night 🤷🏼‍♀️) My plan for this is to offer a smaller 4oz bottle if he doesn't self settle after about 10 mins and then slowly reduce it down an ounce until he gets used to not having anything. I did this with my first and he eventually just stopped waking up for it and slept through so hopefully it works again

Hi all, how did this go? I’m in the process of trying to cut out one breastfeed after her morning nap (she is 9 months EBF) but can only get LO to take 2 oz max

@Charlie thank you!! Sooo helpful, and amazing that your boy is sleeping through. Is he also a June 2024 baby? Praying for the day I get a full nights sleep haha xx

@Faye thanks lovely! How amazing are your twins for sleep through!! I give my LO breast milk all day and bottle of formula before bed but thinking to switch to bf morning and night and bottles in the day to wean her off

@Beth awww girl, I’m glad I’m not alone! We will get our sleep back one day haha🤞🏻. Oh gosh no children allowed is a shame, keep offering the bottle my LOnrefusrd but I offered the bottle daily and one day she took it. Also waiting till she’s super hungry may help!

@Nicola this is so helpful, thank you for sharing your plan lovely. I will try and do exactly this and pray it works out for me. Best of luck xx

@Mandeep hi lovely, I haven’t started yet but will start this week! I’m going to it pride day bottles and bf morning and night and see how it goes.

Does anyone have any tips on how to not get engorged whilst dropping breast feeds?

Yes, also a June baby! 15th

Tips for stopping to not get engorged: I am on day 4 of this now and honestly was struggling first 2 days. I decided to pump for morning and night for a bit just to build up a supply but I haven't actually managed to get much which surprised me because I pumped with my first and got a lot. So I have now given up pumping and I'm just hand expressing little bits when I feel engorged. Doing it in the shower seems to help a lot. Now on day 4 I am not feeling full at all anymore so not engorged. Also used lettuce leaves to help with the discomfort, cold from fridge is good 🙂 good luck, I hope you're not too uncomfortable
