Oz in bottle when adding formula

Please help a confused ftm out. I’m aware adding the formula adds to the volume of the bottle, but when making a 5oz bottle obviously it’s 5oz of water, but then the liquid goes up to 5.5oz, does this mean she’s drinking 5oz or 5.5oz ?

Put the water first and then the powder, whenever she drinks she drinks

@Ana that is completely the opposite of what I’ve asked, I know how to make a bottle

I’ve always just gone of what it should of been I seen something once saying the volume thing to ignore it and to just go of the original amount not sure if that is correct tho but that’s what I do

I think it's based on the volume of water so 5oz x

No if you put in 5 oz of water then baby is only getting 5 oz it's the bubbles that make the volume go up but if you let the bottle settle it would go down

I always go by the amount of scoops added. So if I give a 5oz bottle and she drinks all of it she's had 5oz of formula x

It's fluid oz so 5oz water is 5oz of feed xx even with the powder

It’s still the amount of water that you count - that’s what I was told when baby was in hospital

Don’t worry! It will be 5oz no matter what 😊

It goes to 5.5 onz because you’re adding something to the water BUT its still 5onz she isn’t drinking 5.5 i dunno if this is making sense i’ve been awake since 5.30

When adding both but when you shake well it should settle back and be 5ounce as it settles, I'm sure an 0.5 of water won't make too much difference here and there, but putting less water by 0.5 will only make the milk slightly more thicker and not accurate either. I usually find my water to powder ratio spot on when the water settles and shaken well.

As others have correctly said, it’s the amount of liquid you measure out initially so 5oz :) the formula is just displacing it to make it look like more but the amount is still the same x
