Dos and don'ts for taking toddler abroad

We're going abroad in May and I'm feeling so anxious about it because my 16 month old is everywhere and into everything. Any helpful tips please things for the plane to keep him quiet and happy. Any small toys, tips for the sun and heat, anything about 4 of us in one room. Just anything that is helpful and things you've learnt not to do please. Want to be prepared so I can try enjoy the holiday!

We found dinners the most complicated. Assuming you get breakfast at your hotel, there’s usually a high chair and you can get on semi normally. Lunches and snacks out and about - you’ve probably figured out how to navigate these. But then dinner time is tricky - you don’t want to be out because you need to be ready to get LO to bed soon after. You also need to feed yourselves.

Oops hit send too soon! I haven’t figured out any great fixes to this but from our experience - we spread the rain cover from LO’s pram on the floor of our hotel room and fed her there. And picked up simple things for us to have for dinner (wraps or such) rather than trying to deal with room service or a takeaway which will be noisy and wake LO up Hope you have a lovely trip!

Someone told me to board last instead of first- if possibly have your partner board before you and get everything set up, and you stay with your son and let him run mad to get loads of energy out and board last so less hanging around and queuing!

following this as we’re going away in june abroad for the first time! daughter will have just gone 17 months and STRESSING about the flights😅😅

We went away with our LO and it was fine. They have one bad night the first night as its all change but then we kept our routine and it all went back to normal. We had to slightly adjust timings by an hour so that we could all get dinner but then just woke up an hour later for the week. I think routine is key. They slept most of the flight so that was also ok. I would take a drink for take off and landing and snacks. We were all in the same hotel room. It was chaos but once they were asleep husband and I sat on the balcony and chatted/played cards etc. Was really nice him and I time. As we weren't going anywhere we got ready for bed with the kids so we didn't make a noise in the room once they were asleep. Then we could just clean our teeth and jump in bed when we chose to do so. Our LO wanted to dig sand at the beach or be in the pool doing water play all day so that's what we did. It was such a nice holiday. Xx
