@Nicoletts he started taking okeprazole when he was around 14 weeks. It is for his acid reflux. Which did helps him
My baby has cmpa and it took a couple of months for the docs to diagnose her since she didn’t have blood in her poops at first. She was SO miserable and I kept telling them I thought it was the allergy. She’s finally on Puramino formula and is thriving. BF babies can definitely suffer from the cmpa. My sister-in-law had to completely cut out all dairy bc her EBF baby was struggling so much. Once she was dairy free her baby’s tummy started to heal. Her baby’s poo had blood in it but it was microscopic so they couldn’t tell at first. Our baby has been on Puramino for about 1.5mo now and I would say it definitely took a solid month before I saw significant improvement. She still has some reflux so she’s on Pepcid, but other than that she is doing so much better she’s like a different baby. You know your baby better than anyone else, so advocate for him and do what you think is best! Cutting out all dairy is a great start.
It can take time for milk to exit your system yes, I would persevere. Unless the allergy is -IgE a test wouldn’t show anything as non-IgE intolerances I believe are by elimination only. It’s so common though so it will very likely help! And they generally grow out of intolerances, our 3.5yo can have it processed now ♥️
With my daughter exclusively bf for 1.5 years we thought it was cmpa or an allergy to something I was eating. I had to cut out all allergens from my diet and dairy, and when I did, the issue SIGNIFICANTLY improved. Now, she did have blood in stool, but she was also gaining weight and feeding well. But the pain and screaming subsided. Fast forward to now and it all makes sense now that she has a tree nut allergy and I was obsessed w choc covered nuts at the time. So I would say if anything, try cutting out milk from your diet, and if you’re willing, the top 9 allergens. When symptoms get better, start introducing one allergen per week and see how it goes.
Have you tried excluding things from your diet which might effect the Brest milk. I would start with lactose as it’s harder for baby to digest. Then you could also try excluding fruit, and different veg (anything except root veg, and peas). It’s boring and tough on you, but might help. Did you or he take antibiotics at all? If so probiotics milk help him?
I EBF and my baby has CMPA! Reflux and explosive poos (no blood) eczema didn’t start til he was 6 months old. I cut out dairy and eggs and continue breastfeeding til he was 13 months old x
This sounds almost identical to my experience. It took until he was about 4 months old for the HV to take me seriously and she finally prescribed SMA althera for him and he’s been a completely different baby since. You can buy some dairy free formula online without a prescription so you could always get some and try it for a couple of weeks to see if there’s an improvement in symptoms until the milk leaves your system. I would also push with your health visitor to prescribe it if you see an improvement
Thanks to all of you, i am taking him today to the GP and also will be taking him to a private paediatrician this week. Also, ill be cutting all dairy and soy and see if that helps . Now i need to make a meal plan or something . Thank you ladies xx
Well- never seen this GP she was waste of my time .. she said colic … as we all know when they have no clue they say colic… ill see what the private paeds will say
@iulia I have an 8 month old who was diagnosed with CMPA at 4 weeks old, and in my opinion the GPs know relatively little about it, and sometimes you have to push quite hard to get the care you need, which is sounds like you’re doing a great job of! Hope you have more luck with the private Paeds doctor- we ended up in A&E with our little one, and they fast tracked us to an NHS Paeds doctor which is how we got the diagnosis so quickly. Even then, we had to try different things to rule out reflux and colic before they would prescribe hypoallergenic formula. Good luck!
We had same symptoms though I just went dairy free and refused the omeprazole because I didn’t like the research on long term use. We have been dairy free over a year now and he has been loads better, also egg free but we are good with soya. The doctors were less awkward with me once they realised I didn’t want formula and was still going to breastfeed regardless. Saying that we finally have our hospital appointment for Wednesday so that has taken ages to come through!
Omeprazole isn't for newborns, be cautious with anything steroid, numbing or not for children with OTC.
