My LB was sucking his thumb, started around 5-6ish months. Every time I saw him with is thumb in, I would take it out his mouth. He’s now 8.5 months and doesn’t do it anymore. Occasionally it’s in there with the rest of his fingers or by itself but he’s teething and biting down on it. We do also give a dummy as I feel it’s easier to get rid of the dummy (when the time is right) than get rid of a thumb 😂
My LB has sucked his thumb since 6weeks old, only while going to sleep. When he was going through leap 5 around 6 1/2 months. (Apparently they start to be really cranky, clingy and cry more as they discover mum and dad can walk away and leave them behind). He started sucking it more often and through out the day. He is 10 months now and has pretty much stopped sucking his thumb at all now. We didn’t do anything he has just stopped it by himself. Most babies stop thumb sucking on their own before 1. Xx
I let my daughter do it to sleep and take it out during the day when I can. It’s such a common habit. Dentists allow before 3 years old. You’re doing enough.
Does he have a dummy? I was adimant my baby wasn’t having a dummy but on the day I took her into my work setting for a visit she was sucking her thumb quite a lot and it was my boss who advised me “it’s easier to take a dummy away than a thumb” the following week she was still thunb sucking and her dad was working away she wouldn’t allow me to put her down just to put a pair of socks on she was really clingy I finally gave in and give a dummy. She never sucked her thumb again. Only has the dummy for sleeping and when unwell she would have it through the day but it’s now gone for good and she’s 2
My cousin is 42 and still to this day sucks her thumb not even just at home but she will do it in public too. Not so much walking sorund tescos but if she sits down for a meal/sitting at the table in a pub we quite often catch her sucking her thumb such a habit she doesn’t even realise shes doing it which I didn’t want which is why I gave in to a dummy
@Lucy I am 37 and still do. Nothing will stop me or has. I'm a proud thumb sucker, I do not do it in public though. Saying that my daughter has a dummy because I didn't want her copying me. She does not suck her thumb.
Pull the thumb out and say no - he might get upset but will eventually stop :)
