How do you know if you sleep *too hard* to cosleep?

Sometimes I wake up in a panic bc I slept hard for a long stretch and it takes me a second to gain my bearings and find him. (Even tho he’s always in the same spot by my belly, my sleepy brain just searches up by my pillow first)

For me it took me a while to build trust within myself. Lots of anxious nights waking up often and checking him next to me. Take all the precautions with safe sleep that you can including the cuddle curl. How I built trust was I saw that I barely moved when I slept I managed to stay in the same spot.

If you're a breastfeeding mother and you're not really severely sleep deprived or on medication that makes you harder to wake up, you don't sleep too hard to cosleep. I completely understand feeling uncertain at first, though! Like Natali, it helped me trust myself when I saw that I barely moved when I slept with my baby. Also, the first few times we did it, my husband stayed awake for a couple of hours to watch us together. That was mostly because he was nervous about it, but when he did, he said he could see right away that there was no way I could roll over on the baby given how I was sleeping and that I wasn't moving.

I adjusted my sleeping based on what I was stressing about. I was always worried about bubs scooting down under the covers so I put my legs in a bent position below them, when I was stressing about them getting to the pillow in the night, I learnt to sleep with my arm around the pillow so I would feel if they moved into it. (Also it's super comfy like snuggling your pillow) if I ever need to change which side I'm laying on, baby comes with me and I resume my set up. The trust for me came when one night my partner woke up from a bad dream and he was flailing around, I had grabbed baby and moved him to the other side, woke up my partner and told him to be careful, all with my eyes closed and still sleeping. Still don't remember it but my partner was amazed that I moved him right before an arm would've got him and I slept through the whole thing
