Purées over BLW

I’m curious if anyone has decided to feed baby puree rather than do BLW. I feel there is now a stigma around purées and feel bad if I don’t do BLW

Purées here as hv advised slightly early weaning because we struggling to get her to take milk and was too scared to blw at 5 months still am lol 😂

1. I don't know what blw means? 2. I've started homemade baby puree at 5.5 m. At the beginning it was....well I don't know what it was! Now she's nearly 6 m she opens her mouth and ai think chews or swallows like a turkey, I don't actually know what she's doing🤣 but I'm happy with my choice abd will move forward... will do these pures until 8 m old ,,then will do mash 8-10, then finger food etc...

I’m doing a bit of both! Got a few pouches in the cupboard but also prepared to make her some bits too and for her to have whatever we’re eating. It’s whatever is best for your baby at the end of the day.

I’m doing a mix of both. The food he actually swallows and eats is puréed. Not a lot of blw stuff goes down - brocolli florets or avocado or whatever . Maybe because as soon as he takes a chunk or gnaws it too much I sh*t myself and take it off him 🤣🤣

I did both with my last and I’ll do the same with my daughter. Feed purees to make sure she’s getting full and enough food in her but will offer a bit of finger food along side it. We will cook/prepare half the food as finger food and then blend the rest with some milk to feed as a puree x

I’m also going to be doing a mix of both, as I did with my first baby x

Because there are not many advantages with spoon feeding. On the contrary. It is more work for us mums preparing and mashing foods, then being stressed when baby doesn't want to eat. Having to find extra time of the day in our already busy schedule to sit down with baby and feed them. Not being able to eat at the same time if we want to have a family meal as someone has to feed the baby. On the other hand BLW takes off all the pressure and stress (as long as you overlook the horrid mess 😆👀👀) and you get to eat as a family, baby is relaxed and enjoying meal times. Mainly BLW is natural way to continue breastfeeding as breastfed babies feed themselves. You offer the breast, but it is the baby who decides how much they take, how fast or slow and how often. So it makes no sense to interrupt this natural process of independence and learning and suddenly do things for the baby rather than letting them figure it out themselves. Formula fed babies might take longer to get hang of it but benefit as much X

We are doing purées and I’ll give a price of broccoli or whatever I’m pureeing alongside as she gets older 🙂 with my stepdaughter we did BLW as that’s what mum was doing and she never ate anything and just played and chucked it on the floor 😬😬 Obviously every baby is different 🙂

Going to do both especially using pouches if we're out whilst she's getting used to stuff. As long as they're working through the food groups & gaining weight healthily do what suits & supports you

@Gabi I will be doing mostly blw as I did with my first baby, but just wanted to note that it does still involve prepping the food to make it safe and age appropriate (eg things like apples should be cooked for a 6 month old). Also my first baby was totally able to hold a spoon with handles at 6 months, and he fed himself things like yoghurt, so it would be similar with other purées. But if you are wanting them to finish a whole portion and not make a mess then yes you’ll have to feed them 😂

@Rosie exactly this! My baby needs a bit help with the spoon and to pick up some food as they don't necessarily just go straight in and just eat whag you put in front of them. I want him to taste food as well so I help him and either way, you need to supervise them to make sure there's no choking and because they also love throwing plate and cutlery around. I honestly find it much quicker to just spoon-feed but combine to make sure he actually eats and he eats what we eat xxx
