Pregnant?

I’m 4 months postpartum and exclusively breastfeeding. No signs of period having returned. We aren’t using contraceptives but have been “pulling out”. What are the chances of getting/being pregnant?

Not sure on the odds but just remember you will ovulate before you’re period so maybe don’t wait for your first period to stop doing that if you 100% don’t want another baby right now xx

The pull out method isn’t contraception and nor is breastfeeding. If you don’t want to get pregnant you need to use contraception.

Chances of getting pregnant are low but there is still the possibility. All it takes is one mistake and you could become pregnant without starting your period first so just be careful! On the other hand my husband and I did the "pull out method" for about 9 months and I didn't get pregnant till February when we actually tried to have another one. And it literally only took that one time to concieve 🤣 So just be careful and don't be too surprised if it happens bc there is always that possibility.

I got pregnant while exclusively breastfeeding, I had no periods at all bar the odd day or two of breakthrough bleeding. I now have 2 under 2. If you don’t want another baby just yet, I would find alternative contraception 😅

i think it depends on when you’re ovulating. i’ve been doing the pull out method and ovulation/cycle tracking for 2 years and we haven’t gotten pregnant. but there’s always a chance no matter what you do

@Yasmin Hi, yes so I’m aware neither are contraceptives, hence why I stated we are not using any. Thanks though 👍🏻

It's very unlikely but not impossible. You would need to have sex whilst ovulating which is unlikely at 4 months if EBF (usually ovulation doesn't return until after starting on solids when breastfeeding reduces). And although not a reliable form of contraception, pulling out is going to reduce the chances even more. X

This is how my friend wound up with 2 under 1 😬

Honestly it depends on a lot of factors and one of the biggest ones is trusting your partner to know when to pull out. Withdrawal 100% functioned as a contraceptive for us and served us well for 4 years before we decided to actively try. But he knew exactly what he was doing and wouldn't ever push it too close, which takes a lot of restraint. I was very bitter during that time that it hadn't happened accidentally because I was always told that the withdrawal method had a pretty large failure rate and I had terrible baby fever! I wouldn't say it's great for 100% foolproofing, but it really was effective for us. That's just my experience though, it really does depend on the man mostly, and most of them don't pull out in time... For peace of mind I would use some form of contraception if you're absolutely against having another right now.

I didn’t get my period til 6 months PP, we used the pulling out method for 18 months after my first. Then the month we decided we’d try for a second I was pregnant. Pulling out methods worked well for us so far between baby 1 and baby 2. Just take a test to check if you’re worried and keep a few in to double check x

I got pregnant 6 months PP “waiting” for my period before I started the pill (doctors orders) but I was EBF for the first 4 months. Never got a period FYI 🤣 pull out method is 100% ineffective.

Super fertile after baby

6 months pp, breastfeeding as well and haven’t gotten a period either. Same method as you and no surprise pregnancy

I was pregnant 9 weeks pp, whilst exclusively bf without a period

That's how Irish twins are made

Very possible my friend had her 4 th using the pull out method and she couldn’t understand why 🙄

I got pregnant via the pull out doing it just one time in one month. One time is all it takes...
