Nursery and speech

I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem with their little one. I get a lot of comments about my little girl’s understanding and speech saying how much she understands/speaks (she is 18 months this week) She has just this week started putting 2 words together for example “no daddy” when she sees a man that looks like her daddy on the tv🤣 and she can say some really tricky words such as tractor so clearly. At nursery however, she doesn’t speak a word, she’s been known to say 3 words there since she started, and when I suggested her new target to be 2 words together to keep supporting her, they responded “that she needs to build her vocabulary” How can I get her to be more confident?

My daughter was like that! She was speaking really well at 14 months, she joined nursery and didn’t speak at all. All her observation were of things I knew she could already do etc. She soon became more confident at nursery and started acting like she did at home & they couldn’t believe it😂

@Jasmine this is reassuring! My little one is so confident most of the time but I think at nursery perhaps they can get a little lost with all the children around and all the activities? They said to me the other day “she loved this and said wow!” And I said that’s good, but it was her first word so she’s been saying that a while!🤣

Exactly the same here! I know my little girl does speak at nursery but no where near as much as at home! She’s also started to put two words together and has a massive vocabulary but nursery only hear the odd word! She’s been at nursery since last August too so it’s not as if it’s a new environment!

@Hannah my LO has been there since September and she has come on leaps and bounds in most areas but she stays silent at nursery! Glad to know I’m not alone! Xx
