Weaning off breastfeeding

I didn’t know when my breastfeeding journey would end and I always felt like I’d not want to stop, but recently, due to a number of reasons, I’m just not enjoying it anymore and would really like to try and wean my exclusively breastfed baby off the boob. She’s not taken a bottle since about 4 months, seems to hate formula, and any time I put cows milk in a sippy cup she spits it out. So not an easy customer! I’d love any advice on how to wean my baby off, and any advice on what next steps are in terms of replacing the breast milk.

Sorry no advice but this is very similar to me. My boy stopped the mixed feeding at 4 months and wouldn’t take formula again later on. He’s not bothered by cows milk, will take a couple of sips but much prefers his water. He goes 10 hours ish without breastmilk on the days I work but when with me, seems to have increased his feeds especially at night 😅 He absolutely loves it. But wondering how and when we’ll stop. My goal is by 18 months 🤞🏻

You don’t need to give her formula or cows milk as a drink if she doesn’t like it. As long as she’s getting a good amount of calcium per day from other sources - yoghurt, cheese, plant based sources etc - then she doesn’t need to drink milk. I stopped breastfeeding my eldest at 15/16 months and she never had a bottle or cows milk as a drink x

@Bryony if you don’t mind me asking, how did you do it though? I just don’t know how I’ll get her to go to bed when it’s so ingrained in her to have a feed at least morning and bedtime.

Still enjoying BF but I go back to work 4 weeks today and I’m still feeding before her lunchtime nap and bedtimes. I tried giving her cows milk today before the nap and she screamed batting it away. I really hope it’s just bcos it was me giving it otherwise we’re going to have problems. Will try again tomorrow

I dropped daytime feeds and just did a bedtime feed for a couple of months beforehand - she was happy for me to rock her to sleep instead so eventually just did that at bedtime too.
