My son will hit me randomly in the face a lot even when he is not upset and when he is upset he will also hit we also give a firm no I even will unlatch him from nursing when he hits me but nothing works any tips to get him to stop hitting
We also are working through this exact issue. He randomly would hit our faces even just watching tv on the couch contentedly.
He is getting much better with it from buying a couple children’s books on the issue & reading them to him (recommend “Hands Are Not for Hitting” by Martine Agassi on Amazon). Not just from him listening to the book but it also gives advice to the parents, so I implemented that advice.
Offering him what he can do with his hands when he feels the need to hit, every single time he hits. Clap his hands, high five someone, squeeze his own hands together, take a breath, jump up & down, hit appropriate things (pillows, stuffies). Many other options too!
It’s been slowly working the more repetitive we’ve become with giving him other things to do with his hands!
