It's not an "emergency" just because you're in labour. It's unscheduled. I went into labour at 2 am on the day of my section but they monitored me and took me down to surgery at 930am when I was due to go down anyway. Emergency sections are when they need the baby out now because there are complications. If you go into labour call triage as soon as you think you are, tell them you're booked for elective and they'll get you in to monitor you. Don't stress about it, you'll be fine 🙂
With my second they booked me in a day before my due date, as it was the only day they had for me but I did ask if they had any availability to put me next in line.. but she came at 38 weeks and 6 days due to pre-eclampsia xx
It is normal yeah, so I wouldn’t worry! They book elective sections for anywhere in week 39, this can also be inclusive of your due date. If you do go into labour, you’d just have to ring triage immediately and they’d get you ready and take you in. As the beginning of labour is typically slow, although it would be classed as an ‘emergency section’ (my consultant also told me this) it would still hopefully be much calmer and have more of the feel of an elective as you hopefully wouldn’t be in active labour/pushing stage yet. My consultant just told me to call as soon as I had any labour signs before my elective so they could get me in asap 😊
Okay, thanks everyone! Panic over 😅🥰
That’s not what an emergency c section is. And they can move it forward if labour starts. True emergency c sections are really rare, most of the time it’s just an unplanned c section.
I had an emergency due to baby being stuck and pre eclampsia i hadnt opted for an elective. Next one now will be an elective as im not allowed to go in to labour or have any contractions as i had to have a T incision so im more high risk with uterine rupture
I had mine booked for my due date and went into labour the day before 😅
Does the consultant book for elective c section date after the appointment with consultant or they will call back later for confirming the dates? Because I have my C section consultant appointment at 35 weeks which is really late, just wondering will I get a date booked on that day itself or need to wait for another phone call?
I went into labour 10 days before my booked c section. I was done as an emergency due to the circumstances. If you go into labour ahead of your booked date your c section will be done that day instead and when exactly just depends on how urgent it is/if there are any complications etc.
@Hridzi My consultant contacted the people who book it and then j had a call from them the same evening, but I think it depends, she also said that some women wait 3 to 4 weeks. But presumably if you're having your appointment so late on, you won't have to wait long x
They booked my C-section for AFTER my due date. I was disappointed because I got told by everyone that it would be 39 weeks instead it was 40+2 weeks
I was due on the Saturday and I went in on the Weds so not much difference! They say if you go into labour / waters break you’ll be offered to go through vaginal labour and you’re still able to opt for caesarean if it’s your first choice. Just because it’s deemed ‘emergency’ you may just be in very very early labour - not necessarily urgent in the sense of an emergency setup. Hope this helps x
