Opinion on hospitals (south London) Croydon area

Really early on my pregnancy but struggling to decide on which hospital I should self refer myself. This is my first pregnancy and I don't know many people who had a baby to whom I could ask. I feel a bit lost. My nearest hospital is Croydon university hospital (about 10 min drive) but was also considering St George's or St Heliers ( around 30 Min drive) How do I make a choice? What should I consider? Croydon looks quite updated on their website but read somewhere that can be quite busy so you don't get much attention. St George's looks ok but their cqc rating was not the best. Anyone got any advice? Thanks in advance 😊

Congratulations! Have a look at stats where the maternity departments are concerned, read up on their cqc rating and maybe see if you're able to read up on the experience of mothers at all hospitals, to find out how they were treated during their pregnancy? Distance between hospitals and home is key imo, but don't compromise on standards.

Hi ! I would say if you can travel to St George’s … please do, Croydon university has had many failures, horror stories etc. Epsom hospital is also really good, if you have transport, bare in mind st heliers is VERY small in terms of maternity care, so there’s a lot to consider… like Chantelle said before me, check maternal health stats!!!

St heliers was amazing!

Hey, St helier was absolutely amazing, although small the care was there and I was really looked after. Thanks to an amazing midwife she spotted my liver condition. St George's I have had friends and my sister say the standard of care is not where it needs to be for post and pre pregnancy. My sister transfered to St helier mid pregnancy. Follow your gut and what's right for you. I never even considered Croydon as an option.
