also if you don’t want to be induced that’s your call, they can only advise you based on what they know from the scans, but it’s ultimately your call and they have to respect your wishes
Similar has happened to me, abdomen measuring big at 34+4 and having to test for GD, I don’t have it so guessing she is just a big baby. I’ve got another growth scan at 37+3 and then seeing the consultant. Already been told it may be induction or elective csection if she continues to grow at this rate at she’s estimated around 6lbs now. I was hoping for vaginal delivery and go into labour naturally so who knows at this point!
I would do lots of research around ‘bigger babies’ personally and make your own decision, you can’t be told you will be doing x or y just because it’s a ‘big’ baby, it’s your choice to make an informed decision. We were told this with my first and I did end up having GD but she was 7lbs at 39 weeks x
@N LThank you for this!
Thanks everyone. If I’m honest I feel like I’m being penalised for having a high BMI. I’ll obviously do my research and see what happens at the next scan.
I had this happen at 30 weeks and I freaked out because I’m also hoping for physiological birth and they straight away started talking about induction and c-section which both I’m terrified of bc of past medical trauma. I’ve since heard sooo many stories of people being told the same at the end of the pregnancy, they induced labour and ended up with a normal size baby but a traumatic birth and they regret the induction early. I’ve also just had another scan showing baby is now normal size?!?and they said the last scan might have been an over estimation. I’ll have another scan in two weeks to check the growth again but at this point I almost wish they never measured at all, it’s just causing unecessary stress…
It's not always about the weight, it's also measurements etc, that's why some other babies weigh the same at that gestation and won't need to come early x
with my first pregnancy they tested me for diabetes 3 times because heaven forbid i be a fatty and not have diabetes, they were so desperate for me to have it😂
At my 32 week scan baby was measuring 4lb 8oz, with abdominal circumference on the 97th percentile. I do have GD though, but currently diet controlled. I’ve so far refused to book a c-section or an induction, and am aiming for a vaginal birth. - although I previously delivered by c-section. At this moment in time I’m taking each week as it comes and seeing how my baby and myself progress and my consultant is happy with that. I have another scan at 35 weeks and they said if I haven’t decided anything different by then, then that’s fine x
you can be induced and have a vaginal birth, but i get what you’re saying. the scans aren’t massively accurate, they can only estimate based on what they see and most time they don’t have much to go on. try not to worry too much, if it was anything to be concerned about they’d have mentioned to let you know. i was given an induction date at 38 weeks due to baby being big on the scans, they said she’d be about 8/9lbs and she was born after i naturally went into labour at 37+6 at a tiny 6lbs1🤷🏻♀️
