CMPA?

Hey. My baby is 5 weeks, seems to be quite colicky (some days worse than others) and finds it difficult to poo. It’s really hard to burp her but she’s very gassy which just ends up trapped and sometimes results in reflux. Twice she’s brought back up some of her bottle. There’s a lot of cries in pain before a bowel movement. Infacol doesn’t work, now giving her gripe water that does seem to settle her a little. We’ve noticed rashes come and go this week. The GP said rashes are normal for a newborn and she’s got colic but I’m starting to wonder if there’s more to it. Her stomach is loud and gurgling often, we get some days of crying for hours. She passed smelly wind. She’s uncomfortable after most feeds. Her eyes have been red and swollen this week, only noticed it once. Could it be CMPA? Or could be something as simple as a heat rash as the weather warms up & colic? Rashes are on face, back of neck, stomach. She’s really screaming in pain some days😞

Following as our boy is the same but minus the rash!

Definitely sounds like CMPA. Colic is a symptom, not a diagnosis, and it’s a really common symptom of CMPA. Along with the other things you’ve described which are all symptoms too.

My daughter’s stomach used to look bloated like this too, I’ve noticed it’s gone down since I have cut dairy. Does sound like it could be CMPA, my daughter had the same and then over time developed blood in poo etc x

Sounds like it could be CMPA - im dairy free myself and my first baby was the same despite not getting dairy through my milk. Turns out it was soy as the proteins in soy and dairy milk are very similar so lots of babies cant tolerate either of them.

Thanks all for comments. Taken her to see a doctor today, turns out it is CMPA due to all of her symptoms along with the rash and we start a new hypoallergenic formula today. I hope she starts to feel better. Just want to mention to all mumas FTM or not please always trust your gut! Don’t let health professionals gaslight you down the “it’s normal” “it’s just colic” path. Yes it’s normal for babies to cry and be a bit upset in the evenings, but not inconsolable 80% of the day. Appreciate all input xx
