Yep my 6 week old baby seems to be awake the entire day when I'm on my own and in the evenings when I have family to help she's flat out asleep! She seems very alert and content as you say, just not sleepy. Having said that she will only sleep on me in a sling, so it's kind of nice not wearing that 24/7! It's all over in a flash though, as a mum of much older children, these days are short lived and you pine for them when they want to spend £60 on Nike as pre teens!
My boy is 8 weeks and since 6 weeks has decided that once he wakes between 5/6am he is up for the day and might not nap again until midday or later. similar to others he is pretty content and fine but eventually gets over tired. He also still wakes every 3 hours during the night for feeds.
We had this! But it only lasted for about a week, he’s 9 weeks now and is back to normal - sleeping throughout the day. You just have to persevere 😂 If you haven’t already, try downloading Huckleberry and using their sweet spot projections for naps, it’s been a life saver
My baby is often awake for 3 hours periods now. He's 7 weeks. My baby won't sleep for more than an hour at a time at night if that makes you feel any better. This is tough!
This is my baby too. He’s 8 weeks and does fall asleep on the breast but wakes when I try to put him down so he either latches back on or wide awake. He too is very alert so we fill the days with story time, nursery rhymes, walks in the pram, baby tv, therefore can’t get anything done in the house. At night after a bath he will sleep for 4 to 5 hours in one stretch.
I remember with my first this happened... We ended up following wake windows because as soon as he got over tired it was impossible to get him to sleep! They need help falling asleep around this age.. so just check what his wake window will be and religiously start getting him to sleep... Maybe take a few days to get into the swing of it. We managed to find a way to get him to sleep after each wake window and it was a game changer. My second is 8 weeks and I'm starting to think I need to do it with him too..
Yes I thought important to mention that I do have to walk around with a sling or feed my baby to sleep. They don't self soothe very well! They want your heartbeat and closeness for all naps really!
I have no advice but you have my sympathy. My baby is 6 weeks old and is still wide awake having woken from her last nap at 3pm. She's not upset or fussy, just absolutely wide awake. Yesterday she only napped for an hour. I'm hoping it's just a growth spurt and she'll catch up on sleep soon
