Is this too long to leave a feed?

My little one is fed every 2.5-3 hours during the day (closer to 3 most times and I wake her to feed following slow post birth weight gain) she is now well over her birth weight. I fed her every 3.5-4 hours during the night again most times waking her but tonight my husband was due to give her a feed so I could get some extra sleep. I woke up to her crying and giving the feeding cues and the full bottle on the bedside table and the idiot had fallen asleep and not given it her. She had gone 5 hours from her last feed to that one. Is this too long to go during the night? I see some posts of many leaving their little ones for that time but my HV are strongly against it. She woke up almost 3 hours after that feed for her next and has just gone back down.

If your baby is back at their birth weight, then i was under the impression that in the night time you can let your baby wake you, instead of the other way around. So if they didn’t wake for 5 hours i think that’s fine 🙏🏼 enjoy the chunk of sleep!

Even if you are not comfortable doing this based on your advice, there probably isn't a one time problem. I've been going 4-5 for one night stretch the last few days. He cluster feeds in the evening and then goes down for a longer sleep.

My baby is 3 weeks and can go up to 5hrs overnight as he feeds 2-3hrly in the daytime. Baby will wake you if they're hungry, I wouldn't worry especially as she's over her birth weight x

hmm, I think 5 hours can be a bit long for a little one that age, but every baby is different, so just keep an eye on her cues and maybe chat with your HV about it! here's what the 'Heal Baby Care App' says.... "It's understandable to feel concerned about your baby's feeding schedule, especially after working hard to ensure she gains weight. Generally, for newborns, it's recommended to feed every 2-4 hours, and going 5 hours without a feed can be longer than ideal, especially if she's still very young. However, if she seems content and is gaining weight well, it may not be a significant issue. It's important to monitor her cues and ensure she is getting enough nutrition overall. How old is your little one, and have you noticed any changes in her behavior or feeding patterns since this incident?"
