Advice for flying with a fussy baby?

Hi all! In about a month I’ll be flying (2.5h flight) with my then 4m2w old. He is currently having a mix of breastfeeding and expressed milk, but I’m not against using formula if more convenient for the flight. Our bubs is quite a fussy baby, I don’t know if it’s a phase or just what he’s like, but I’m worried about flying as sometimes he will only settle when bounced on an exercise ball. What’s your advice for flying with a little fusspot? Also, what has been your experience feeding baby on a plane, did you bring expressed milk? Or did you have enough space to breastfeed? Or perhaps bring a ready made formula as then I dont have to worry about storage? Thanks! :)

Hopefully you’ll be pleasantly surprised, I found that it’s so noisy on a plane it’s basically white noise and often seems to help them have a really great nap! I’d also say that the noise of the plane actually helps make any crying not sounds quite as loud either if that helps 😂 Being able to walk them up and down the aisles is obvs great, so taking a baby carrier in hand luggage will save your arms ☺️ also a change of clothes for you as well as baby… I forgot about myself and was stuck when I got vommed on 😂 Personally I’d say breastfeeding would definitely be the easiest option. I found there was enough room and it was helpful for giving comfort on take off and landing to help with ear pressure! Sorry if any of that seems obvious, just chucking thoughts out!

@Sam not obvious at all! A couple of worries I have is firstly my baby still hasn’t taken to a carrier, we have two kinds of buckle ones and a wrap one and he hates them all… hoping that suddenly changes one day 🥲 And with breastfeeding, I find holding him super difficult - he’s a big baby so he’s heavy and just takes up a lot of real estate, at home we do side lying position 98% of the time and I’ve never attempted to breastfeed him outside the house. I think I’ll just need to work on both of these things in preparation!

I know what you mean! Mine has a bit of a love hate relationship with the carrier! Sometimes I have to plod along for a good 15mins before she stops crying and goes to sleep 😅 Tbf I never find feeding out and about the most comfy unless I find a sofa, but plane seat surprisingly weren’t too bad. I think it helps having a jumper or something you can roll up and use for padding on the arm rest for your elbow. And if your partner is sat next to you then your baby’s legs could spread out onto him ☺️
