Nap transition

Is anyone else really struggling transitioning from 2 naps to 1 nap? My 16 month old gets tired sooo easily and overtired and it seems impossible to extend her wake window. But she’s been waking up sometimes before 6am in the mornings so I thought maybe she was getting too much sleep during the day with her 2 naps? Not sure if I should continue trying to switch to 1 nap or keep her on 2 for now.

So we have had the horrible indecision with 2 or 1 nap. What we decided on was he wakes at 5:30/5:45 every morning and gets first nap at 9:30-11. Then at 3 we give him warm milk and quiet time (play ms Rachel for half hour). Sometimes we go for stroller walk at 3:30 and he usually falls asleep in stroller and we only let him nap 30 min. That lasts him til bedtime at 7:30. Hope this helps!

From what I understand, the 2 to 1 nap transition is the hardest and can take a while. When I started, my LO actually did super well for a bit until she didn’t, she started fighting the nap hard and once even refused it altogether. But I kept going and she got it not long after that. Since then I have had to tweak the wake windows. What does your schedule look like?

@Taylor she typically wakes up around 6am, she rarely sleeps past 630am. Right now I typically put her down around 930 or 10 because she gets so cranky and tired. And then she naps an hour and a half. Then I’ve been putting her down for a second nap around 3 and she only naps about an hour. I tried skipping her second nap one time but she got SO overtired and it was an awful night lol, but I think I just need to try harder to stretch her first wake window, it’s just soooo hard 🙃

@Natalie I’m glad I’m not the only one. Maybe I should try cutting her second nap a little shorter like you , I’m wondering if she’s currently getting too much daytime sleep

I read info on the Facebook group Respectful Sleep Training/Learning Group a lot, and they say before you transition to 1 nap the wake windows are typically 3/4/4 with each nap being one hour. After that schedule stops working is when you’d go to one nap starting with 5/5 with the nap being 1.5-3 hours. There’s so much useful info there, I recommend checking it out!

@Taylor thank you!! I’m definitely going to look into that
