Definitely no from me
I don't think it's anyone's first choice anymore. There's a place for it when sleep deprivation is impacting mums ability to look after herself or her baby but that's about it
The real name for the method you are probably referring to is extinction. Leaving a baby to work through things themselves in their safe sleep space, without being in the room with them, only going in if a need is not being met. A baby could ‘cry it out’ in your arms as you transition from feeding to sleep to having baby fall asleep in your arms. Is this emotionally damaging? What’s worse, a baby crying in a safe crib for 15 mins whilst an exhausted parent has a shower or tends to their other child, or having a baby cry for an hour whilst a parent is rocking them? So many people have this view that babies are left alone to scream for hours during extinction. This doesn’t happen and isn’t the case if things are prepared correctly. My opinion is everyone is allowed to do what they feel is best for their baby and their family situation. A baby can actually cry more if you have a very hands on sleep training method, something parents have to judge and do what they feel is best.
There is a scale I think. We did it a bit for like 10 mins at a time so he wanted for us to go to him. But we always went in the end and never let him cry himself to sleep. I think we had the right balance
Defo a big no from me! This is very interesting to listen to about how the cry it out method started and the reason behind it.. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DHgk815tXUq/?igsh=NWp2cnVvcXEyZHR2
Actual CIO is cruel and neglectful. End of.
My parents profess to have used CIO on me as a baby and now I’m a very independent adult, who had a strong urge to move out of the family home ASAP and has a very weak relationship with both parents so……no, I won’t be using it for my baby
Torture
Definitely not and wouldn’t do it myself as nothing good comes from it. I do think though that there are times that parents should put their crying baby down for a minute or so I.e exhaustion or frustration as advised by HV. Other than that no
Definitely a no from me!
