My experience has been mixed but we’ve got some wonderful therapists now who my son adores. It was a journey for sure. For us OT helped with sensory regulation and now fine motor skills. ABA is helping us figure out how to help him so he can still enjoy life as his meltdowns used to be so bad. Although speech helped a lot and I’ve implemented a lot of positive stuff at home too. I love my aba now. He says to make all “breaks” positive experiences. It’s not meant to be punitive but meant to help him learn how to manage his feelings in a healthy way. What do you want to gain from these therapies?
@Julia I just want to get him assessed that what level of therapy he needs. He throws things, hits, and screams, so some help with that would be good. Also, he needs support holding a pencil/scissors, so he also needs help with his fine motor skills.
Yes. I’ve done both and speech and physical therapy with my son. You have to find the right people who care about your child. I’m in the US so I have no recommendations for you except when you do make appointments, know what your goals are for your son. Stick around and make sure your son responds ok and you like the way he’s treated
