Combi feeding before weaning

Advice needed please My girl is 5 months and EBF. I reluctantly want to start combi feeding... Mainly so when I do KIT days in June it won't be such a shock to the system. And so I can find a formula that works for her before we start weaning. Any advice? Also what formula has worked for others transitioning from breast milk? Thanks 🙂💛

Do you have to formula feed? Could you pump instead? Nothing against formula but might make it a bit easier for the bottle transition

Agree with Ashleigh if you’re really not a fan of formula, you could pump & give that in a bottle. If you’re not going back to work just yet you can start pumping once a day & building a freezer stash so you have a back log of milk, and pump when you’re at work so you’re not missing a feed and whoever has her has the bottle to give. I hate pumping but this is what I’m doing in dreaded anticipation of returning to work xx

I don't have to, but in my head it might take the pressure off. I have a bit of a freezer stash but haven't pumped in a while so I could still do that. I will be working really long shifts so I just know it will be so hard to remember to pump when I go back to work x

@Kat that’s understandable, you may find though if you’re working long hours and not pumping to replicate a feed your supply Will take a huge drop… by law breastfeeding mothers need to be given time & a space to pump so your employer can’t say anything negatively if that’s a concern xx

All formulas are basically the same. They have to be , government regulations. So it shouldn’t matter which one you pick

My little girl is 5 months too and until this week EBF. Shes not gaining enough weight so I’ve been advised to “top up” with formula. Reluctantly have introduced formula, did some research and chose Kendamil. Shes taken to drinking it fine and is happily switching between bottle and boob. If it helps atall … My eldest daughter was EBF until 1. We tried to give a bottle of formula/breastmilk at 9 months in prep for me returning to work and she would not take a bottle atall so in a way I’m glad to have done it now!

Combi fed mine from birth just so he’d take a bottle and took that pressure off me whilst I was also trying to look after my 2 year old. I use Aptamil which works for us, but as someone said above, they’re all basically the same as they have to be by law. I’d probably see which one your local supermarket has the biggest stock of and go with that! X

My little one is 5 months. I formula feed in the day and breast feed at night. I use Kendamil. I actually got recommended by a midwife to try Kendamil, apparently it’s the closest to breast milk as it is sweeter because it uses whole milk. Not sure how that works when formulas supposedly use all the same ingredients 🤷‍♀️ It was a challenge to get my little one to drink from a bottle. I’d express breast milk into a bottle to start with. I found they took mam bottles best I then gradually weaned my little one on formula by mixing the formula in with breast milk. I would do 80% breast and 20% formula. Then reduce the breast and increase the formula by 10% each day or once they were drinking most of it. I just used ready made formula to start with to mix it with breast milk. I would put both in the bottle then warm up the bottle by leaving it in some hot water. It wasn’t an easy transition and felt like a long journey but we got there in the end and now my little one loves a bottle!
