How do I help myself?

On Monday I went to the doctor because I suspected I was suffering from postpartum depression. Crying all the time (especially at night), anxiety through the roof, being overwhelmed and frustrated constantly and major feelings of failing my 5 month old and me never doing enough or being good enough. On monday my GP told me I had severe PPD, they gave me sertraline, referred me for therapy and got in contact with then health visitors to do checks on me. All these things take time to kick in and help. Is there anything I can do in the means time

Hey! Amazing that you recognised the signs and got yourself help! Well done you!!!! I had similar on my first and in order to help myself I made teeny tiny changes ( nothing big because that was impossible!) Such as, on the days I couldn't face a shower, i washed my face, if I couldn't face going to the bathroom and using soap and water, some days I used a wet wipe 😂 but it made me feel that teeny tiny bit better! Instead of just a coffee for breakfast, I had a breakfast bar too. Little miniscule changes made my day that tiny bit brighter - a huge one was i painted my toenails the brightest orange i could find and it was like looking at the sun every time I saw them. Postpartum is rough, be kind to yourself and look after you as well as baby. Your baby isn't the only new person to arrive, mum is too. You're smashing it, you've got to 5 months! Your baby adores you and is happy to just be with you. I also have a five month old and I promise there's not much you can be doing with them so you're doing great ❤️

Reaching out for help is the first step! I hope therapy helps you and so does the meds! I refused to do meds and therapy is helpful at the time! I hope there is light at the end of the tunnel for you!
