Pembury hospital

I'm 33 weeks at the moment and I previously gave birth at Maidstone birthing centre (3 years ago) and I'm hoping to be able to do the same this time. However if for any reason that's not possible I would have to go to pembury. So I'm just after your experience at the hospital, what happens if you have been induced (did you had to stay in a labour ward?) how was the labour room and birth experience with the staff, how long were you in after? Am I right in thinking you get a private room after the birth? Thank you

I gave birth in pembury in November and it was one of the best experiences of my life. We had our own room and the midwives were absolutely amazing! I was there for four days (3 days labour and 1 day recovery) and both myself and my partner were looked after so well! We were initially in the triage room and then transferred to the delivery suite once labour was fully established. The rooms were really spacious and they helped get a bed for my partner and we were both made comfortable. I wasn’t induced so can’t provide anything in that side but truly was such a good experience for both my self and my partner!✨

I agree with abi! I gave birth in Pembury in January, although I was originally really anxious to do so, and wanted the birthing centre, but there was too many risks with my pregnancy. The midwives were so incredible. I ended up having to go into theatre, and all the staff were incredible there too. I was induced at the beginning, and spent a total of eight days in the hospital, and they couldn’t do enough for you. Rooms are really spacious, and you get your own room, and each room has a wet room attached to it too. Lots of privacy.

We had an excellent experience with Pembury in May 2023, with my daughter. We were there 3 days in all (Thursday morning - Sunday lunchtime). Due to complications in pregnancy, I was advised against the birthing centre. And when my daughter didn’t get her act together herself, we were booked for induction at Pembury. I initially started induction on Thursday morning, but at first observations my daughter wasn’t responding well, and heart rate had spiked, so I was sent for an emergency Section. We had our own en-suite room (after birth), my partner had a bed, we were both offered cooked food for all meals, good care from nurses + all staff. There’s a small kitchen room, with fridges if you’d like to store your colostrum.

Thank you ladies! I'm so glad you had positive experiences and now I just feel better no matter where I end giving birth! ❤️

I gave birth at Pembury just over 2 weeks ago and I cannot fault them. I was there for a total of 5 days, I was induced on a Thursday and was on the antenatal ward until the Sunday and then the postnatal on the Sunday night/Monday after I had given birth. We had our own room the whole time which was really spacious in both wards, my husband bought a blow up mattress to sleep on. The staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful, no question was silly, this includes all the midwife’s, doctors, staff in the operating theatre etc. My induction unfortunately failed so after 3 days I didn’t want to go through the whole induction process again as I had been having strong contractions but hadn’t dilated 1cm and baby’s movements had massively reduced so it was classed as a cat 3 emergency section. We had a great experience and would definitely want to give birth in Pembury again.

I had my little boy at Pembury in December and I’m really glad we went there! I also wanted to go to the birth centre but couldn’t. I was induced and was there for 6 days altogether. The midwives and other staff were all great and we were in a private room on every ward! You’ve got nothing to worry about ☺️ I would say take a blanket/pillow for your partner, they’ve only got mats or the chair for them to sleep on xx

i gave birth in Pembury hospital last April. Original plan was to go to birth centre however i was contracting for 4 days and not progressing, sleeping or eating so was transferred to Pembury, As i left they gave me a sweep as bumpy car rides can apparently help progress, ( it did) arrived at Pembury 4cm went straight into delivery suite. I had complications with my birth but the midwives there handled it really well, 1 hour after giving birth there was no room on the ward as or course i had to give birth on the busiest day! so they offered for me to go back to the birthing centre for my recovery. I loved my experience (even though a had a horrific birth) the main reason i wanted the birthing centre was because of the privacy in the aftercare, however i still got that with my hospital birth. xx

I was transferred from birth centre to pembury, was worried about it being a hospital etc, but was it was a gd experience there! Was straight to delivery suite as I was about 9cm, the midwifes were so lovely helpful. The aftercare was great as I stayed in for 3 days. They check on you a lot etc! X Would recommend taking snacks etc as we didn’t & my mum had to bring stuff in for us as isn’t much around to have. X

I had my little boy on 25 March at Pembury. I had initially wanted to go the birth centre in Maidstone - largely due to the ambience and after care. Baby had other plans. At 42 weeks I was only 2cm dilated and not progressing quickly. Although I was low risk with no complications I was expecting a large baby. I decided to go in to Pembury for induction at 42 weeks. Within 24 hours of induction (pessary / gel) they got me to 3cm dilated and had waters broken the next morning. Laboured with epidural and hormone drip the rest of the day and only got to 5cm before labour slowed down. Elected for a c-section at that stage and baby was delivers at 11:25 that evening. The whole experience was honestly calm and relaxing. The staff modifies / surgeons / anaesthetists / nurses / consultants were all exceptional. When I look back with hindsight whilst I didn’t have to go through the induction and could have gone straight for elected it was a. Reg positive experience. We are so well look after.

Event the after care in the postnatal ward was really good. I would highly recommend Pembury. Even when they were busy you would never have guessed because they still provided consistent care. Looking back my C-section was meant to be. Baby was so large he could not decend sufficiently to put enough pressure on my cervix to encourage it to dilate. I now know I was in the right place and received the best care for me and my baby. If I had gone to the birth centre things might have been different. If I’d had him nationally things might have been difference. Ultimately we have a healthy happy little boy.
