Teething or just dribble?

My MIL is convinced my LO is teething as he likes putting his hands in his mouth and has started dribbling. He isn’t showing any other signs and she keeps buying and going on at me to buy teething toys but his hand eye coordination isn’t even good enough to put the teething bits in his mouth yet, he just brings toys towards his mouth at the moment. How do I know if he is or not?

Could be teething, my little one starting doing this about 3 months old. My mum told me she thought he was too young to be teething but 2 teeth popped through when he was 4 months old

How old is baby? At 3 months they do start putting their hands in their mouth but it’s no longer a sign of hunger. My little girl is 5 months & if it’s in her hand, it’s going in her mouth😂 She loves a teether but there’s not sign of teeth yet. I found she couldn’t hold much at 3 months though, so brought her the Gummie Glove (£13) which helped a lot.

@Jessica we are 4 months and yeah in my opinion he is just discovering things with his hands and mouth but I’m sick of her going on at me every time she sees him saying “he’s definitely teething him” 🤦🏼‍♀️

@Jade I can’t see any other signs so far but I’ll keep checking and maybe we might get a surprise of teeth! I just assumed he would probably be more unsettled than he is if it was teeth?

My little boy didn’t really show any signs apart from the constant dribbling and biting his hands and toys. He wasn’t particularly grumpy. They just appeared one day

Could be teething or might not be it’s hard to know. My little guys cheeks go bright red and he gets very cranky as well as chewing hands and dribbling when his gums are at him. We do give him teethers in general though so that he can practice his grip, bringing things to his mouth etc (and if it has added bonus of stopping unsolicited advice then what harm… my MIL did the same with my son when he was 2.5 months and cranky … kept saying he was teething when he was just tired)
